Did a search and found something from 2 years ago and I've seen a few videos online, but they never seem to be an "apples to apples" comparison.

I currently have a Steeda CAI with a Bama tune on my 2011 GT. I know I might be able to squeeze a bit more out of a tune if I went with someone else, but it has been fine for me.

I'm trying to determine gains of swapping to the 2018(+) intake as it seems relatively affordable and something I can do. I guess I'm just trying to determine how much of an increase it will be over my current set up and if a tune is necessary. If a tune is necessary, I don't know if Bama supports that mod so I'd have to go somewhere else (adding to the expense) AND find someone that writes tunes for my InTune device.

If anybody has an experience and/or links to give me some more information on this, I would appreciate it.

Worth it. I did a ported 18 intake I ordered it new from auto mafia racing and it was worth it to me. Bama does not write tunes for cars equipped with a 2018 intake so I switched over to vmp. letting go of bama for a better tune was also worth it. Didnt dyno or run it after the swap but it only took a few hours and was pretty easy. I'd say it's worth probably 20-30 whp and allows you to rev well over 7k rpm. A good manifold is a well worth it mod on a coyote car especially n/a but my 18 intake does great with my Paxton too

You need a 2018 water outlet , lockouts , and the 18 intake.

I went with the boss intake , just for the simple fact it's a upgrade that Ford made for my car. The 18 intake is kinda cobbled together. But it's a good intake with good gains.

I used a 15-17 water neck and it worked out for me. And yes you will need imrc lockouts for 11-14

How about the brake booster and EGR extension tubes? Just grab those at an auto parts store?

Swapped them out on my sons 2014 and followed the VMP video. No problems at all. Yes I grabbed the extra hosing needed at the auto parts store. Ordered the intake from Lethal with port, tune, and lockouts.

Cool. Thank you everyone. Seems like substantial gains and a pretty straightforward install.

My obstacle now is finding someone to write a tune for my device (Diablosport InTune).

My $450-$500 parts project jumps another $100-$200 for a tune...and becomes cost prohibitive if I have to consider buying an SCT device as well.

Yah, I know....trouble is finding someone who writes tunes for my Diablosport InTune...or dropping another $400 for an SCT X4 tuner...which almost doubles to cost of this upgrade.

I thought I saw a video where they didn’t retune the car at first and it drove fine or maybe it was in a different thread I read. I’ll do some digging and see what I come up with. I don’t think you would reach the full potential of the 2018 with the rev limits but you could drive it until you could afford the new device. Just something to think about or get the manifold and hold onto it until you can pick up the SCT and tune.
This thread is the one I read that mentions a swap and using the same tune.

I think Alejandro Flores put together a decent video on that subject. I think it was on a 2014. Maybe.

Edit: My bad. 2015

Interesting video, and I actually have been comparing a stock 2013 Airbox, and a JLT 2 CAI.
I have come to two conclusions so far:
Factory airbox wins for lower temperatures by a small margin.
Both get heatsoaked in traffic and IATs climb.

Last test will be laptimes, stock air box vs cai.

See, that’s what I mean. In the LMR video, how much of the 20 hp gain was due to the intake and how much due to the tune? If they kept the car completely stock and added a Lund tune to it, what would the baseline have been....OR.....what would the numbers be with the intake swap and NO TUNE?

Might look into installing the intake and tuning it at a later date - so long as it doesn’t negatively affect drivability.

And I watched the VMP install video. By the time I make a decision, I’ll be an internet expert at this swap

Thanks for the vids.

Been thinking about this swap. Still have a stock GT intake.
You could raise rev limit with the InTune let the computer do the rest. Dont go higher than 7200 redline.

What makes a boss intake "designed for these cars" but the '18 intake isnt? They both bolt right on and both require a tune? The only difference is the 18 intake especially when ported loses nothing down low and makes a good bit more power throughout the entire powerband then the boss intake. The boss intake looks nice though

That would be the cobra jet intake. The boss does look cool though. I went back and forth on the boss or the 2018.
