Well I think I found why I'm throwing a lean code.

I'm throwing my old catted mid-pipe on for now as I gotta get her running well for smog next week. Ordered a new one. They're pretty inexpensive and that last one lasted about 10 years or $1/mos so I'm not too worried about it. But just for anyone interested, mild untreated steel and it lasted for 10 years in the high desert.

Not bad!
Gotta love the arid conditions for preserving a car. Metal lasts a long time in the desert but some of the plastic parts don't fare quite as well in the heat.

Yeah. Every time I gotta do something to the car the plastic electrical conduit/tubing just crumples away in little pieces.

So after I threw on the catted mid pipe it threw a lean code again on bank 1. I reloaded my smog tune when I came home and tomorrow I’ll swap the injectors from side to side to see if the code follows. I have no computer right now so data logging is non existent at the moment.

In case you need some extra time, state of NV has issued a 90 day extension due to the shutdown.

yeah I got time but it still gotta get taken care of. Still gotta find out why I’m running lean.
Maybe swap O2 sensors side for side first? See if the lean condition follows the sensor.

Oops, wasn't a lean code I threw. I just assumed it was because that's what was been popping up with the hole in the exhaust. I threw the P0153 circuit slow response code which I cleared and hasn't come back in a couple of days. I'm not sure if this was due to the new sensor or if there is another issue. If it comes back I will swap the O2 wire extension with a new one as I have a couple laying around.

This is typical when new O2 sensors are installed & KAM wasn't reset. PCM is using the last O2 sensor testing results of the old B2S1 & the new front O2 sensor's inferred center scale & amplitude range differs (slower) from the old recorded data from the old front sensor enough which caused PCM to think the O2 sensor is bad thus threw the DTC. Since this data has now been updated (and you reset the KAM which clears out all the old Mode 6 data when you erased the DTC) the PCM is starting over w\ a clean slate so you most likely won't see any more of those unless there really is an issue. Sometimes on the initial warmup of the new O2 sensor's element they can be a little slow to respond then afterwards they'll respond just fine.

Yeah, that's what I figured. I switched from the Bosch to the NGK 22060's and figured the modulation would be slightly different. I cleared it and it hasn't come back. Car is running like a champ, no codes, and passed my smog yesterday. New O/R pipe came in and had the bung for my gauge welded on. Might be a while before I swap it in and get the cats off of her as my other car is taking up the garage getting new suspension and chassis work done.

Oh that's purty! :thumb:
Glad you got all sorted out!

Curious, are the cats you're using to pass smog the OEM cats\midpipe w\ the O2 sensor bungs mounted in the middle of the cats?

No, they're just some high flows from Jegs I had welded into the O/R pipe that came with the my headers. Bungs were already in there near the crossover. Then I bought another mid-pipe and put the cat sims in there and just had that catted one sitting around.

Would you mind posting a link to those cats so that I can look at them?

No.... to be honest I can't remember which ones I got. I can probably post up a pic in a few days when I do my brakes. For some reason SLP pops into my head but that was 8-9 years ago. I know I got the cheapest ones that fit pretty much. I used to only use them for a couple weeks a year for a couple years before I went to the sims.
