Been trying to get the top driver side bell housing bolt for a clutch change. I have read everything I have found and spent literally 10 hours trying to get the bolt off. Sprayed with PB, bought new extension set to reach cover more than 25", used breaker bar, impact gun, everything I could think of... If anyone has any information, I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you.

If you don't have a blower, pull off the intake manifold. You can spray the inside end of the bolt with pb blaster and it is much easier to get at those top 2 bolts.

That bolt sucks!

I have a supercharger, and with the extra intercooler hoses etc. in the engine bay getting at it from the top is not really an option.

IIRC I used close to 5 feet of extensions with at least one swivel to get to the bolt. Had a someone else guide the socket onto the bolt, and I was under the car with a ratchet. Used the ratchet to break the bolt loose, and then an impact to run it the rest of the way out. The end of the extensions is going to be near the tail housing of the transmission, too steep of an angle and the socket is going to come off or the swivel is going to bind.

If you’re turning the bolt the correct way...

place a jack under your harmonic balancer and carful jack up the front of the engine. Pay attention not the crush the manifold and misc wires and such against the fire wall. 2 straight extensions and a good wobble extension should give you an almost straight shot at the bolt from about the tail shaft of the trans as AP pointed out. Swivels bind and greatly diminish your applied torque.

Are you turning it counterclockwise?:whistle1:
Checked after every attempt. I"m certain I am.

Sounds like this might be my next plan of attack. Thank you for the response.

Jack the front of the engine up, this will lower the rear of the trans and give you a clear line of sight to the bolts. Like I said. Then a combination of the right tools and it becomes quite easy. I grabbed my 3/8 for this pic, use 1/2... but you get the idea... you can blaster the hell out of it from here to if so desired.
Or go two steps forward three steps back, to each his own. Good luck.

That's an amazing demonstration to follow. Ill give it another shot and blast it again with PB. Thank you so much.

Update, got the bolt. Wasn't bad to get after taking a brake and revisiting the situation. Also huge than you to WNYGT5-0 for the help. I used your socket rig as a template for my own and got it in about 5 minutes.

I had to take my intake off to actually remove those bolts, BUT those things were super tight! I couldn't get them with 2 wrenches linked together, I ended up making a breaker bar sort of tool as it was the only way I could get something in there that was long enough to break it loose (this was a tool I'd made a few years ago for a belt tensioner on one of my former vehicles, I just bent the handle to clear the firewall)Snapchat-759960002.jpg
