Axle Shaft issue. HELP!!

A while back, I neglectfully hit a curb with the driver's side rear wheel. The wheel began wobbling slightly, causing the rotor to spin against the pads at an angle, causing a squeaking noise. I deducted that the axle shaft was bent.

I bought stock axles from a member on here and just finished replacing my axle with his this morning. Upon putting the rotor and caliper bracket back on, I see that the axle sticks out further than the original one, causing the rotor to come into contact with the bracket.

What gives? Were there differences in axle lengths throughout 05-09 production?

No, I haven't tried that. But the one I put in was the one closest in length to the one I took out.

For reference, here's a picture of the ends of my old driveshaft and the other one that was sent to me side by side (original on the right). They appear to be different as the splines are different lengths. Was I sent axles that were not 05-09 GT, or is this some anomaly?

The Axels for the 2005 to 09 are the same and if i remember correctly they will fit all the way up to the 2014 with LSD. I would check your set up to make sure the bearing is seated on the Axel shaft correctly and properly seated into the differentail. The distance from the C-Clip seat to the Bearing seat should be the same length on your replacement.

Count the splines on the new axle, if it's 28 you have a V6 set. I hit a curb a while back same thing, bent the axle, put in Alloy USA axles and if I remember one axle is shorter than the other.

The axle is installed correctly and I verified that they were 31 spline axles prior to installation.

I put the rotor and wheel on the car without the caliper or bracket on and let it idle in gear. The wheel still appears to be wobbling. I'm starting to think that the axle tube itself may be bent as well, causing misalignment with the caliper bracket.

Can they be straightened, or am I going to have to buy a whole new housing? [emoji31]

All 2005+ Mustang GTs were 31 spline 8.8s. The axles are side specific and the part number for the 2005-2009 Mustang GT never changed during that time frame.

Any numbers stamped into the axle?

When I bent my Axle the wheel was trashed also, had to get a new wheel, would wobble. Put new bearings, seals axles and a wheel and all is good, housing was ok.

I'll double check on any stamped numbers when I get home tonight. I'm pretty sure the axles are correct.

I've already replaced the wheel. The curb cracked it when it hit.

Hello,
Does anyone know how much play can axhle shaft have in up and down dirrection? I know there is specified maximum end play (in/out) in workshop manuals, but I can´t find the "radial" specification..
I'm trying to find out if my bearings are worn out, without having to disassemble the rear and.
Thanks.

As close to zero as possible. There should be very little play in any direction.

You shouldn't have any radial deflection at all.
