Is my Mustang Tuned?

Hello all! I am new here and I was hoping this may be the place to potentially find some answers....

Situation:
- I recently came upon a mustang through family, but the original owner has passed away.
- The 06 Mustang GT has some minor performance upgrades, I can visibly see that it has an AFE Cold Air Intake (https://afepower.com/afe-power-51-10293-magnum-force-stage-2-pro-dry-s-cold-air-intake-system)
- I also found an SCT Xcalibrator 2 Tuner in the trunk. I plugged the tuner into my PC (just to give it a power source) to see what was on it. Brenspeed.com is the first thing that pops up on the screen of the tuner and when I go into the "Install Tune" menu it displays 3 options "Stock (TSG0) 2008" / AFE (91) 2008 / AFE 87"

My question is:
- How can I find out, what Tune (if any) is actually programmed into the ECU of the mustang at this moment? If I plug the SCT Tuner into the OBD port, is there an option to display the current Tune that is loaded on the car?
- I am slightly concerned about which gasoline I should be putting in (87/89/91), based on whether or not it is running the 91 Tune or the 87 Tune.
- I am new to the S197 Mustang scene, and am eager to learn. I appreciate the help, big time.

Kindest,

FiveSeven

If you want the best performance I suggest you fill the tank up next time with 91 octane. That 87 octane catpiss has no business being inside a performance car. Afterwards use your SCT tuner to change the tune back to stock, then load the Brenspeed 91 octane tune, and have a blast.
I'd strongly recommend that you clean the inside of the throttle body thoroughly as per Brenspeed's instructions in their YouTube video to avoid any idling/driveability issues.

You cannot just read what tune is loaded in your pcm. Thats one thing I dont like about SCT. Since you listed cold air intake specific tunes on the device, and you have that CAI, there is a good chance that one of those two custom tunes IS loaded on the car. Returning to stock will tell all. It wont run right if the CAI is "tune required".
As for the 87 haters, I have to say this: my car put down 404 at the on 87. My Hayabusa runs 87 per factory specifications. Its not exactly "catpiss" fuel. This isnt the 60's. Combustion chamber design has developed allowing us to run "regular" gas in performance engines.

The Gen 1 Coyote was rated at 412hp/390lbft on 93 octane and 400hp/377lbft on 87 octane at the crank with a stock tune. Imagine how much more performance you'd have running your 5.0 on 93 octane with a custom tune, though I can understand you wanting to run 87 octane if you're concerned about gas prices.

I have a 93 tune I made for the upcoming Watkins Glen event. Laptimes and top speed on the backstretch will show if 93 vs 87 actually means any difference.

I think most ppl misunderstand octane rating. Higher octane than an engine was designed for will result in LOST hp. Engines make the most power on the lowest octane fuel that does NOT detonate/ping. I know ppl who run 93 only in everything all the way down to a weedwhacker! lol
Those gen 1 advertised numbers are a bit low, or the drivetrain losses have greatly improved.

The drivetrain loss is only ~10% so typical Dynojet numbers for a stock Gen 1 are 370-375rwhp & 350-355rwtq.

Higher octane than an engine was designed for will result in LOST hp. Engines make the most power on the lowest octane fuel that does NOT detonate/ping.

In most cases that's true but if the ECU has an adaptive spark strategy (e.g. '10 4.6 3V, '11+ Coyote 5.0) it'll make more power on higher octane fuel because it'll be able to use more timing advance. While these engines ARE designed to run on 87 octane without pinging, the knock sensors will retard spark timing to prevent detonation and the result is less power.

Ok, so at a 10% loss, I calculate my bone stock junkyard coyote is making 444.4 hp at the crank. On 87.
Im fully aware of the adaptive spark. That system makes octane specific tunes a moot point. Yet tuners still offer different octane tunes for the coyote.....

Fair point Mr. Admin sir. :D
The ECU of the '05-'09 GT doesn't have an adaptive spark strategy. Therefore a custom 91 octane tune with 91 octane fuel in the tank will make more power than a custom 87 octane tune with 87 octane fuel in the tank.

Original question was: is it tuned?
And the easy way to tell: hook up device and see if it has "restore to stock" option available. If option is there, it is tunned.
Dont know why I didnt think of that.lol
