Wideband O2 question

I'm trying to get a tune on for my 4.6 3v now that it is supercharged. The tuner is telling me I need a wideband controller for him to tune it. (It is a remote tune being done)
Can I just replace the left front O2 sensor with a wideband O2 sensor or do I have to add a new sensor into my exhaust? Where would the best place to do this be, if needed?
The car is a 2010 Mustang GT

I did the PLX wide band for that very reason. I replaced the forward passenger with it. The PLX has a narrowband output to send to the ECU so it is not missing the signal. The wideband does not have a heater so the tune has to deal with that. My tuner uses HPtuner software and device so it is capable of incorporating the PLX units wideband output in the data logs. Must run a couple of wires to achieve this.

Do you have an aftermarket exhaust? Some Tuners are going to want it in the collector of the header, at a slight angle.

I put mine on the driver's side, right after the header collector. (middle one in picture) Its a good idea to put it at a slight angle, above the horizontal center line of the pipe. 20190416_195800 (1).jpg

No aftermarket exhaust. Everything is stock, exhaust wise.
I haven't looked under the car, but how hard would it be to install the bung?

On stock exhaust, you need to install the O2 sensor IN FRONT of the converter. It's been a while since I have seen mine with the stock cats and H pipe, but I found this image on another site. This is where you'd need to weld in a bung. Might be easier to mark the location, and then pull the converters/H pipe out and do it off the car. Hope this helps.

Hi OP-

I recently had the same experience. VMP is my tuner. We tune remotely as I’m in Texas. Once I decided to go up to 15psi boost, a wideband was highly recommended. I bought this AEM UEGO on Amazon.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00N3VGPYS/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1.
Did all the install myself. I asked my mechanic about welding in a bung for me and he said 200+... so I searched for methods I could do myself and I found this which works awesome.

No issues since install and now my tuner can see the detail he needs.
I mounted the AEM gauge in my far left AC vent using this.

The mount works great too.

Happy to help if any questions around detail.

OPs main problem is access to the location he has to put the sensor. He practically has to put it in the location I sent above (with the stock h pipe).

I see... never had a stock exhaust... didn’t realize it was so tight in-front of the cats. So not enough room for the no-weld mount between the factory O2 sensor and the cat? I guess not...

I guess it's possible. I'm not even sure if you could get a drill in there to get a hole in it. Like you though, I haven't seen the stock exhaust in a while and can't say for sure!

You have to pull one of the cat converters, install bung before the catalyst, just after the flange.

Those dang cats really are an annoyance... and they restrict HO boosted engines and cost more $ than off-road pipes. Haven’t had them on a go-fast car in a long time. Good thing Texas State Inspection allows one system to be “not ready.” Plus I love the sweet smell of unadulterated E85 exhaust from my car.

Anyone happen to know if the SCT X4 programmer is capable of recording datalogs from a wideband O2 sensor without the need for a laptop or would the laptop only be capable of connecting to the wideband O2 sensor

Isn't that what the fire wire is for? Its suppose to add two more recordable options, mine is boost and A/F gauge. Lol I haven't finished hooking things up yet because I was planning on installing my bung on the collector. I will have to pull the header so it can be welded well.

Honestly, I don't know what the fire wire is for or what can be connected to it. The SCT X4 manual doesn't mention anything in detail regarding datalogging functions nor specifications

Well I am glad I'm not the only one lmao! It's just wired to the wide band controller. Mine is an LC-2 innovative. I'll snap a picture of what it looms like along with what else it hooks to. I had to ask and TBH is part of the reason I am not done. I hate car wiring. Lito was helpful is Casey (rocketcarx).

Your definitely not the only one, that's for sure lol. At this point, I don't have a wideband O2 sensor nor have an O2 bung welded in yet. Until I find out for certain, if the firewire or whatever the port is called on the X4 can connect to and record data logs from a wideband O2? I may have to settle for buying another laptop PC in addition to purchasing and having a wideband O2 installed

It’s a FireWire Cable. I only know what this is because I asked my tuner how to add my wideband signal when logging... vs filming the damn gauge with my iPhone in one hand while driving with the other, lol. I haven’t used one yet though.
