My careless son backed into my not even 2-month old 2019 GT back in April. He promised to fix it, since I was weeks away from my 10-year State Farm accident-free discount, and didn't want to jeopardize that. There's still a little body work to do (we found a bumper, bought new rear wiring harness/brackets, etc), but one of the exhaust tips are pretty banged up.

I can either get a stock replacement (suggestions for cheap, good-quality takeoffs would be appreciated), or I also figured I could get a set of axlebacks.

I like the axleback idea, but am also worried about ruining the sound. I'm still shocked how good it sounds compared to my old 2013 GT. I could go with a little louder/rougher/deeper sound, but not if it adds much (maybe if any) rasping or popping. Oh... and no droning either, lol. Am I being too picky?

Any suggestions? I know exhaust is subjective, so I'm hoping someone who fucking hates the raspy scratchy sound as much as me can make a recommendation on a set of axlebacks that aren't too obnoxious, but would actually be worth putting on.

I do plan on going with a twin Hellion kit sometime next next year, so I don't want to do anything other than an axle back... so aftermarket headers, a full-exhaust system, etc are just not on the table for me. Still, an axleback kit could be fun.

I also do not like the raspy sound I went with a little louder axel back but not crazy loud having a 09 GT 5spd Convertible also to keep the wife happy so I did this they are Andretti electric cutouts So I can get loud when I want and be tame in the morning to keep peace with the neighbors, guess that comes with being older. They sound great Deep and Throaty along with the after market air cleaner. I know yours is a different animal so do a little research. Here are a couple of pics.IMG_20200421_182552681.jpg IMG_20200421_182517373.jpg

The only two axle backs I like on the s550 are roush and corsa. Everything else sounds like garbage imo.

I have a Bassani catback in my 17 gt and like it a lot too. But it also has custom j pipes installed from the previous owner so it’s toned down a bit. Also it’s discontinued. Just throwing that out there.

Id just get some new tips and call it a day if you like the sound. 1500 is a lot of money to spend on axlebacks not knowing if you will like them.

I agree the cutouts were $450, there are other ones out there with remotes but I went for the hard wire they open and close in a couple seconds and your not stuck with loud pipes all the time. They aren't super loud till you stomp on it.

I also have a 19 GT/PP1/A10 with active exhaust. The exhaust tips are really cheap and I have been looking at trying to replace them with a dual wall type. Unfortunately because of the way they are configured I have not found any. I'm assuming you don't have the active exhaust. I did just replace the OE resonator with the FPP X pipe and really like the sound, it's a little louder, but not raspy and no longer has the mellow tone that my 14 TrakPak with dual tip GT500 mufflers. I've had both Borla and Bassani. The Borla Sport has nice mellow sound
and sounds more old school than some of the others I've found, because I was looking at replacing my mufflers for something with much more visual pleasing tips, but since I installed the X pipe, I'm sold that the OE mufflers have the best sound for this mid 70 year old.

Borla ATAK...nice sound & not too much. Son went w/ CAT-back on his 2016 GT & it's super sweet. Just drove it home fm Ford dealer, after having A/C work done b/c he's on vacation. Had to lite the tires up a few times on ride to his garage. :D

RIP - You will be missed
Why put any money into an axle-back now when you've got plans that'd probably change it all next year anyway? I'd see what I could do about straightening the bent exhaust tip out at least as a first effort.

You're not the first (including this thread) to say the Borlas sound amazing. I really leaning towards these.

Not sure how axlebacks would conflict with a Hellion kit. Definitely not straightening out the tip, as it's pretty banged up.

They will not conflict with the turbo kit but the turbos will act as mufflers and whatever you get now will not sound the same after the turbo kit is installed.
