It’s been a good run but I think I’m gonna try and sell her off. I’m gonna loose a grip on the ROI as I probably have dumped $25K into her. Just time I think. I’m building a race car in the garage and am about to pick up a little 2 seat turbo vert to putt around in. I can probably get by without selling her and I won’t be upset if she don’t sell but it just makes sense to let her go.

I still have a few months as I need to fix a few things. Door cards need to get redone, rear sway bar needs to get put on, couple of blend door motors, buy, paint and install stock gt scoop to cover the dent in the hood, remove the graphics, fix the cruise control and some other miscellaneous electrical stuff. If I spread it out I can keep the car a little while longer. Lol

How much do you think I can get for an abused 13 yr old mid 11 sec street car?

You dont want to know the answer. Really your best bet is returning to stock selling the mods. Then private party as close to blue book as you can.

It sucks to tear down all your hard work but that is the only way you'll see more $$$ out of what you have sunk into the project.

Unless, you're super lucky and find that one guy that wants exactly what you've built and is willing to pay your asking price.

Tearing the car apart and returning it to stock is a nightmare and is really not an option. For one I gave away or ditched 95% of any parts I took off the car, I don't even have the stock camshafts or cmp plates or anything. It's not like I kept the stock axles or rear end, or K-memeber and stuff. I might still have the stock springs. I think I have the original water pump and intake manifold. So sourcing and buying all the parts is a cost in itself. Maybe pulling the blower off would be worth it. How much does a 60,000 mile used whipple go for? Two, I have another build going on that is pretty intensive. What little time and space I have is being taken up by that. I have accepted the fact that I'm going to take a bath but I think it's just unavoidable, unless.......... I don't really lose anything until I sell her.

What happens if I ask too much for the car and it doesn't sell? Kinda my plan, don't tell the wife. My new daily will only have like a $150 payment so it's not like its a financial burden. Only reason I'm selling it is my wife and I came to the conclusion that we don't need 4 cars. There is no real justification to keep this many cars except that I want to. So maybe I ask something silly like $10 or $12K and nobody buys it then I'm kinda stuck with it. I figure its worth about $7K-$8K as a private sale. If some idiot offers me $10K for it I'll take it as that is how much my new car cost me, otherwise it will just be for sale forever and I'll still have it. Kind of a silly plan but it's kinda what I came up with as a work around. My twisted logic is that in a 3-4 years I can give this little turbo solstice to my boy and I'll still have the mustang around for me again.

Oh, I have a couple screen shots from my phone of the new daily. I will probably receive the car in a week or two depending on any paperwork delays and shipping arrangements but here she is. Less than 50K on the clock and price was $9995 before tax, lic, doc, and some work I had them do after I got the pre-purchase inspection report. After some haggling I got her out the door for $11.8K but still gotta pay for shipping. It was about $500 more than what I wanted to pay but I had them put a new fan assembly in and some other other minor things done.

07 Boss,
I think you will find the right buyer asking $12k o.b.o., that is a ton of car for the money.

I'm sure you already calculated KBB value (~$9.5K to $12.3K in good shape) so you're pretty dialed-in. That new-to-you Solstice is super sweet - enjoy!

You think? Yeah it's a lot of car and I would not hesitate to spend money on a built car because I know the time and hours invested that I don't have to do BUT I'm a weird animal. We'll see, like I said I'm almost wishing it won't sell and I'll be stuck with it.

My car has been hit (R rear). There is a dent in the center of the hood that no one wants to fix. Bottom of front bumper is ragged and worn through in a couple of spots. Quite a few nicks in the paint from debris that have been touched up. I would not consider her in good shape by the KBB scale. She's a mechanically sound well performing street/strip car but is showing her age and abuse cosmetically. I've always tried to take care of the paint but not so meticulously like a show car or anything. Once I remove the remaining partial graphics I'm going to have to cut and buff the fenders. If she was stock I would probably sell her for $8K and be happy.

Thanks man. She will actually be the second little turbo solstice I've owned. My last one I had up to just over 300 hp with a tune and simple bolt ons. That's pretty decent for a little 2800 lb go cart. This one will get tires and maybe wheels but that's it. I'm looking to funnel any car funds into my other Pontiac. Takes a few bucks to get into single digit 1/4 mile times.

Good luck Boss! I've seen you on the forums for many years and know you've put a ton of work and sweat into your car.

Interesting to see this as I'm kinda going thru the same thing right now. I'm thinking about selling both my 2010 Roush and the wife's 2018 GT and getting 1 car to replace the two. The 2018 I have no problem getting rid of but the Roush I'd just as soon keep as with all the mods I've done I'll never get my money back out of it, and it has a lot of track day karma with me...
The wife doesn't really want to get rid of it either but she'd like to have her garage space back for winter. Had this same situation when we bought the Roush as I had a 2002 GT then, we kept it for a year and then the wife decided she wanted her space back, and I'm still pissed I got rid of that one too! I'm between a 2018-19 ZO6 Corvette and a 2020 Stage 2 or 3 Roush so could really use the extra cash..... The worst part for me is indecision runs in my family....

Its hard to even sell used s197 parts anymore. So its unlikely that you'll even get that much for them. Plus how much is your time worth. Cars are a money pit. Accept it. The more you mod, the more you lose. But you're having fun along the way. Thats why we play cars. It beats wasting all your time and money sitting in a bar drinking. Plus I never got the whole emotional attachment thing. Its just a toy car. When you're done playing with it, send it down the road and don't stress over it. There are plenty more to play with.

Oh, this is not my first rodeo I just don't really want to sell the car. My wife and I decided to take no less than than $12K for the car because that's how much the long block for my project car is gonna cost. https://www.tristarengines.com/perf...g-darttm-big-m-block-and-pro-1-cylinder-heads

Again my hope is that I don't sell it and I get "stuck" with it. If it does sell, oh well. I'm not stressing over it.

That boat just keeps getting bigger because I have a seat on it too. I know it will sit forever waiting to be sold, and when/if it does sell I will take a fisting on it. But I am not going to spend the next six months attempting to get it somewhat close to stock. We have six vehicles total. A Mercedes SUV, a Mini Cooper S (which is a friggin' BLAST), a F350, the Mustang, and two bikes. Absolutely cannot get rid of the truck. The Mini is new. Will never get rid of the bikes. The Mustang never gets driven. Mercedes is going to find a new home soon too.

You do know that those things can accept an LS in them, right?
LS-swapped Solstice sounds fun to me! :)

Yes. You can get an LS3 up to a twin turbo LS7 but I'm going to keep this one pretty much stock. I'm building a 2nd gen F-body with an aluminum 555ci Dart block. I figure with a 200 shot I ought to get into single digit 1/4's. I used to own a solstice gxp before, a red '07. They are pretty fun cars. I'm just gonna tool around in it as a daily.

I was in your shoes a couple years ago. No KBB, No NADA and the Dealer would not depreciate the car and the Roush sticker together for a higher and in my mind more realistic trade-in valuation. I listed it in a few places and never got a decent offer. I still had the original suspension pieces but upgraded to the Cortex kit. I would sell it "as is" and provide the original parts to the new buyer, but it stayed in the garage with my other three cars, Mazdaspeed 3, Nissan Maxima and Toyota Tundra. Eventually, it became a way to have the wife stop nagging me about selling a car that I always wanted but only goes to road course track days four times a year and starts up once a week to prevent the battery dying. I'm glad I still have room for it and have no regrets at all. So you see, wishes do come true.
