Today was the first day i have managed to get the car out for a good drive, now driven approx 100miles with the new drive shaft fitted and Saleen ss kit removed, when pulling away I have had to be wary as it is now a lot lighter on the clutch, initially it took a while to get used to the longer throw but it actually changes gear easier without the Saleen ss kit so at present i'm not bothered about getting a ss kit,it definately accelerates faster with a downside being even in the dry it is a lot easier to loose traction :driver:
As I am running a 3:55 rear end the car now will sit easier at 50mph in 5th gear where as before it would struggle a bit and I would have to drop down to 4th,over all an upgrade that is deifnately worth the expense and it is a mod I am happy I have done.
Thanks to all those that have commented with help/advice :)

I do love my DSS, it was something I had to wait awhile to get but I figured why not do it when also installing the new clutch. So smooth, it's a subtle difference but you can feel it.

I did mine on jackstands (with the exhaust off the car since I had also just finished a clutch job) it was fairly easy to install however the problem I had was that I either had to have the car in gear or have the parking brake set to torque the bolts on the flanges. So I had to put the shaft where I wanted, shimmy out from under the car, set the brake, shimmy back under the car, torque the bolt(s) I could reach, shimmy back out and take off the brake, and repeat. It was a pain in the ass but a good full body workout, would definitely be easier if you had someone to put the car in/out of gear for you.

Also worth noting, I had to chase all the threads on the axle flange to clean out old loctite, it was making the flange bolts for the DSS difficult to turn in to the point where I was afraid of stripping threads and it definitely would have skewed torque readings. The transmission flange seemed to be OK.

How many kms/miles did your car have on it when you swapped it out? Thanks for sharing the problems you faced with the install as well.

Just under 105K. I was not having any problems with the original U-joints or the stock CV joint but I figured since I had to unbolt the driveshaft for the clutch job and everything else was out, it was a good time to do it.

I have an 07 GT automatic and I'm looking at the following shafts to replace the OE shaft.
DSS Part Number: FDSH57-A $803
Shaftmasters Item# FMS0510GT35D-HDS $790
Steeda MPN: STEEDA-1766-K $700

Are there really any significant differences between the 3 other than price? The DSS is the only one that uses a CV flange, the other two use U-joints. Any NVH differences between the two?

The CV joint will compensate for any changes in the pinion angle. If you ever swap LCA or UCA on the rear end, you won’t have to worry about adjustments. The DSS was easy to install. Although it helps to have a second person to apply brakes as you tighten the bolts and rotate the shaft. There was a noticeable improvement after the install.

Has anybody used the STEEDA piece? It looks very similar to the FRPP shaft and is $100 cheaper. I've had good luck with other STEEDA parts.
