I had my trans fluid changed and now 4th and 5th seem to grind a little going into gear even when double clutching. Doesn't seem to do it bad once warmed up. It always goes into gear and everything. The grind is worry some. The fluid I put back in it was BG synchro shift. So I figure maybe it's the viscosity change?

Didn’t do it before the fluid change but nibbles a little now. Must be the wrong fluid choice for that trans.

When I Google that fluid it comes upas a 75w40 GEAR OIL which is way too thick for the needle bearings in that T5. Also, Gear oil does not get along well with the carbon-fiber synchro rings either.

Why not stay with the recommended Mercon-V ATF (Not Mercon LV) or even Dex/Merc.
Dex/Merc is old technology and will break down quicker. The Mercon-V is a synthetic blend and is fine. For a full synthetic fluid go for Mobil-1 Synthetic Multi-Vehicle ATF.

Stay away from anything with fancy performance additives, special cleaners, or exotic colors in the fluids!!!

Hopefully it will go back to normal after changing fluid. It might take a couple of changes to get the thick stuff all out of the way.

I was actually having issues with 1st through 3rd that's why I had fluid replaced. 1 2 3 were all binding up and locking me out of gears. The new fluid fixed that. Just makes 4th and 5th act funny now

It's not really blocking shifts now. It's just lightly grinding going into gear. Clutch acts fine. When it grinds, by the time you realising it's grinding it's already in gear. It's not like to forcing it out. The original problem with first 3 gears were fixed with new fluid. But it's just a new set of problems now. It's definitely easier to drive now. If I shift super slow it normally won't grind.

I've been having a similar issue. When it's hot and humid, or just humid, I have issues getting into 1st, reverse is tight and 5th can grind until warmed up. When it's cool and dry outside the car shifts fine. My diagnostic brain went right to clutch replacement on a vehicle w/69k on it, completely forgetting that the tranny fluid probably lost viscosity on a 15 year old car.

You cant fix a clutch issue with a trans fluid change.

Update. Pretty sure its what you guys suggested that the fluid is too thick. Once tranny is fully warm there isn't any grinding. Its just when it's cold.

The proper fluid for the '05-up 4.0 cars is a Dexron III/Mercon (no 'V') ATF fluid. Dexron VI/Mercon V may supersede the III/Mercon in automatics, but I wouldn't put it in a manual that calls for a III/Mercon. It is a thinner viscosity than older spec ATFs.
It should take ~2 3/4 quarts.
I use Redline D4 in mine.
