If its lowering your car then yes. Softer still will not change how fast they contact the car/less travel. Bump stop relocation brackets would allow to to keep them full length if I remember correctly. I don't recall the brand that @Adrewnagle used but they are pretty simple little plates.

RIP - You will be missed
Softer will change how hard it feels when the car hits them.

If you're going to cut the stock bump stops down, it's probably best if you start by cutting only a little. You can always cut more off if you feel that you need to, but you can't put it back on if you cut more off than you had to. Bump stops perform a useful function, so it's best to keep as much of that usefulness as you can.

There are DIY ways of putting some of the softness lost by cutting the soft end of the bump stop off, back in.

When you lower an S197 by 1-1/2" or so, we like to cut the axle-mounted bump stop in half...

We found this out after just cutting the top nub off and it was still smacking the bump stops...

Again, 1-1/2" to 2" lower than stock you're gonna need more room than that. We have installed real dampers dozens and dozens of S197s first hand.

Also, some aftermarket rear shocks (from properly designed coilover kits) are shorter than stock and often have bump stops added in-line on the shock shafts. In that case you can remove the axle-mounted bump stops completely. MCS and Moton tend to not use shock-mounted bump stops, however.

Good luck,
