2013 GT - Can't program "old style" HomeLink remote

So I've done a search of the forums and watched a bunch of YouTube videos and still can't get it to work. So what I DO know is that my 2013 sun visor HomeLink is the old style "fixed-code" system and my garage door opener is a spanking new "rolling-code" style MyQ LiftMaster.

I figured out that I needed to go online and purchase a HomeLink compatibility bridge which comes with a receiver that plugs into AC and a hand-held remote like you'd get with any opener.

The instructions say to hold the two outside buttons on the visor until the lights flash and that clears any previous devices entered. Then it says to simultaneously press the desired HomeLink button on the visor (1, 2, or 3) and the button on the handheld remote until the light on the visor flashes. Problem is...is that it never flashes. It stays solid for about 30 seconds and then just turns off. This process is supposed to "learn" the remote. I've verified and tested the battery in the remote and it is present and fully charged. I have the key turned on to 'Accessory' so there's power to the visor. I've even pulled the car out of the garage and shut the door for whatever reason the instructions tell me to do so.

I haven't even gotten to the part where I press the learn button on the garage opener motor yet. That part won't work until I get the remote "learned/programmed" into the visor button.

The HomeLink modules I have say the brand Chamberlain on it, but they are supposed to be universal and work with LiftMaster as well. But even if that was wrong, I would still expect to be able to program the remote into the visor button! Argh!!

Frustrated, to say the least. Has anyone had any success with this or am I destined to carry the original LiftMaster remote at all times?HLCompBridgeandRemote.jpg

I had to do the procedure multiple times on our Edge & it finally took. The Edge is newer but it may take doing it a few times. Good luck.

I've done it 6 or 7 times, but I guess a few more times won't hurt. LOL :banghead:

Thanks!

Well that was my first problem. I didn’t realize that HomeLink and Car2U were not the same. That’s helpful information! [emoji23] Thanks!
