The surfaces will all be lightly scuffed and then the color coats can begin. Until next time!

Thanks for looking guys. This is kinda fun.
When we last looked at our roll bar project things were rather drab. Flat gray and light tan. Sanding with 400 grit W/D and a maroon scotch-bride pad did not improve the visual. I was careful not to sand through the primer to expose bare metal. This is what two wet coats of base color and two wet coats of mid coat color look like.

And this is what two coats of clear looks like after waiting about an hour to apply. I’ll let it set undisturbed for a day or two (if I can) before the final install. Damn, I wanted to put bolts in the holes in the back braces before painting but I forgot. See ya!

Odds & ends day for the Mustang. Bolted in the B pillar support brackets and tightened them up. Also installed the door bar mounting brackets with backup plates and a little sealant around the bolt holes.
Here is a pic of the drivers side where it is close to the break and fuel lines. Notice the spiral-wrap on the brake line. This is provided in the kit and I still chose to bend the tubing away from the bolt.

Used a knife to remove the paint from the slots and tongues that mount the door bars. Also cleaned the cut edges of the quarter panel trim and attached the small aluminum plates with 3M tape and Velcro that came in the kit. That’s all for now.

Hey guys! Big step today. Following the suggestion in the instructions I wrapped the rear and lower bars with paper to protect from scratching the new paint. Then the roll bar is placed inside the car but not fully in place. Now is when the plastic quarter trim is coaxed into place on the rear bars. With a helper, wrestle the roll bar into position being careful to work the plastic into place (or nearly so) as the bar settles into position. Sounds easy doesn’t it. This is the biggest pain in the ass I have encountered in this project.

Moving on to even more fun. It took more than hour to get the bolts in the right rear brace. Obviously it warped when I welded it. I was able to pry it into position and use longer bolts to get it started. Then one by one installed the correct bolts. The other side went together without resistance. With all mounting bolts in place I tightened everything.

The roll bar saga continues. I did a real crummy job of trimming the carpet for the door bar mount. Take your time here and you can do a much better job.

Moving on the the back seat I bumped and pushed the plastic quarter trim panels into place and secured them with the original push fasteners. The seat backs totally hide the vertical cut in the quarter trim.

When it comes to the front half of the quarter trim panel the Velcro strips just don’t do it fo me. I’m thinking this joint is going to vibrate and rattle. It’s mostly hidden by the main hoop and with the seat cousin in place the back seat area looks pretty clean.

Here’s what the door bar looks like with the door closed. It does not touch the door.

I have 5 point harnesses and a little bit of roll bar padding on order so I’ll finish the kick panels and move on to other maintenance.
I hope you have enjoyed this project as much as I have. If you wrench on your own vehicle you can do this. A very good instruction booklet comes with the kit and you can download it from MMs website also. I will post a few shots when the interior is all wrapped up. Later guys!
