Since I was off yesterday to take the dog to the vet, I dove in on the stereo re-do. Got the new amp installed and new 4ga power/ground wires in. Getting that 4ga through the firewall was a real peach, I ended up running through the hood latch grommet. Actually, I had to push the grommet out and snake it in that way. I also reran new speaker wires for the front left since it was running with the power wire. I ended up running it down the other side and then over behind the dash. Anyway, it's in and preliminary tuning is done. I probably will come back to it for adjustments later. I think I'm still getting some noise, so I must have a bad ground somewhere. I didn't get a chance to drive it, so I won't know until then. I did detect a little bit of hum while idling, so it may still be there once I drive it. I'll tackle the big 3 later at some point. I need a break from being on the floor again lol. This weekend I hope to get the tint removed.

You mentioned wanting new head lights previously. These are the headlights I bought for my 94, very nice for the $.

Those do like nice. Not sure how I want to go, but I think the Cobra lights look better than the GT.

So I got all the tint removed except for the rear window. It was basically just coming off in flakes. I tried heat and ammonia. I got tired of messing with it - I’ll let my tint guy finish it up. It’ll be worth the cost saving my back lol.

I also got the instrument cluster bulbs replaced with LED. It wasn’t a bad job, but two of the bulbs weren’t working after I replaced them. I cleaned up the bulb holder and the socket as well as tightened up the prongs in the socket. That did the trick. I like the look of the LED - kind of a soft blue tint even though they are white I noticed some (a lot) of moisture behind the plastic backing on the cluster - I thought that was odd. Doesn’t seem to affect anything. Odd because the car hasn’t seen moisture in weeks.

I also found a loose cable of some sort behind the cluster - I think it’s part of the old alarm system. I’ll throw a pic up tomorrow.

Ordered a new Alpine CD player with BT for the car. They've finally passed laws in TN that require hands-free, which I'm fine with. Too many distracted drivers around.

I'll likely run new RCAs to the rear when I install it, that's the last piece of the puzzle in regards to noise in the system. In fact, I'll probably run three new sets instead of just one to give more tuning options (front, rear, sub). Plus, the Alpine has 4v pre-outs. I think the existing Eclipse has 4v as well, but I can't be certain.

Mufflers finally shipped, should be here today. I will probably wait to install - an old family friend who has done all of our exhaust work for years is opening up a new shop in town (he's been out of the business for a few years). He's hoping to be open next week. I should probably take the car in for an alignment Saturday morning if it isn't raining.

CD player was supposed to be here today, not sure if it's going to make it. Fed-Ex hasn't updated delivery date from today, but it wasn't on the vehicle for delivery this morning when I checked. It was still at a hub fairly close. We'll see.

Could have been some sort of dash lighting. It’s out now lol.

FedEx brought my mufflers, finally. I hope to be able to get them on this week or this coming weekend. Depends on when he gets the shop up and running.

Got the new CD player installed. I also ran three new sets of RCA cables to give more tuning options. It will be nice having hands-free in there plus streaming music. I was disappointed to find the “pro” previous install had hacked up the factory wiring. I spliced in the new, removing his shit work. If anyone needs a Metra Ford harness, let me know as I didn’t use it. I’ll have to redo amp gains and tuning.

I bet those Borla's will sound nice. I've heard good things about the Pro-XS

I'm hoping so....as much as I love Flowmasters on a 5.0, I just can't handle the drone.

Does anyone know if removing the cats will throw a CEL on these?

I don’t know off hand but if it has rear o2 sensors then yes but I don’t think they did.

Consensus is no rear O2, cut away.

Drove it this morning....still have alternator noise. Haven't done the big 3 yet, but may get into it this weekend. I'm going to run a test ground back to battery from the amp to rule that out. It's currently grounded to the body under the rear seat, that may not be the best spot.

There were "up stream" and "down stream" O2's on them from the factory. Two before the cats and 2 after the cats.

But do they measure catalyst efficiency? I thought that was only an obd2 thing.

Good question. I wasn't thinking about that. Just that they were in fact there.

Thanks James - I should have enough cable to ground to the seatbelt. As a test, I'm going to run a cable up to the battery and ground there before I move anything. It could be the ground at the amp or the radio itself. The previous installer hacked into the factory wiring rather than using a harness, but it looked fine. I'll check that ground as well - I should be able to get a good chassis ground behind the dash somewhere.

My interweb searches regarding cat removal seemed to indicate it wouldn't trigger a CEL as it's OBD-I.

Redid the ground behind the radio today, no change. I used the bracket that is behind the dash. I also ran a ground back to battery, it was really hard to tell if that made a difference. I couldn’t drive it so just revving the motor was making too much noise to get a good listen. I may just move it to the seatbelt and give that a test.

Scheduled for muffler install Monday.
