Will there will be a run on S197 cars shortly?

285k and no major issues? That's a nice run!
These cars are anvils. Friend of mine ran an 05 to 300+ and it never needed a thing.

I'm barely 100. Car feels and looks new. I have some aches and pains ;)

So the choice for me at least for now is a 15,000 mile 3460 lbs 420hp Base GT with some Boss upgrades and no payments or a 4000lbs 460HP GT that kinda looks like a Honda at $600 a month. I do have the CAT Scale weight bill from Flying J.

That 4k without you, with fuel? I'm sure.

IMO, I think there will be a tighter market for the 05-09 cars due to the styling resembling the cars of yesteryear. Not so much for the 10-14 cars because those are fat and ugly. I was disappointed when the redesign in 2010 went in a different direction and haven't cared for them since. I also realize that I'm in a small minority who only cares about 65-69 and 05-09 cars due to their styling/design heritage. Most people only care about powah, powah, powah anyway so the 11-14 cars will have their day in the sun too.

I think that opinion is a little on the subjective side. There are many people, myself included, who think the restyle in 2010 finally gave the S197 what it was missing-a more muscular look that still maintained its heritage styling. Hips, bulges, and more aggression, much like the 69-70 cars. And a considerably nicer interior with better materials and a more upscale look. I agree that the 2013 cars looked a little more bloated and overdone in some areas, but included some of the most beautiful lighting ever on a Mustang.

Bottom line, I don’t think the styling changes are enough to render any particular phase of the S197 undesirable. But as you mention, power is part of the equation.

I never got used to the rear bumper after 09. Those angled corners just look wrong to me. And the way the "3" taillamps being different heights. That isnt as pronounced on 05-09, but if you recall the original 60's cars, the taillams (externally, as it was just one housing) are all the same.
Now for the drivetrain...... Sig says it all. :)

Car world should adopt sound testing like they have for bikes. Would make things simpler. You are allowed xx db. Stock or full aftermarket exhaust, does not matter. Just how loud it is.

Are those 285k/300k miles of driving like a grandma, psycho, or somewhere in between? I definitely don't drive like a grandma in mine :)

The 2011 was not quite the same as the 2010. The rear lights changed, rather like the '69 - '70 models. And the bonnet sprouted the start of the moustache look which I never liked.

Perhaps on your side of the pond the rear lights are different, but over here in North America there were no changes to the front and rear tail lights from 2010-2012. The hood and front ends were also unchanged from 2010-2012. No changes were made until the 2013-14 model years.

AFAIK, 10-11-12 are all identical body style. I see no difference between my 2010..and my buddy's 2011. Rear lights are identical, hoods on the 10-12 cars are the 'power dome hood'. Front end is identical. 2010 has the 4.6 eng, and older tranny, that's it. Interior is identical too.

Exactly 100% spot on.

Every time I replace tires or brakes or fix suspension stuff and driveline stuff, I don't blame Ford. I consider it the cost of doing business. You wanna play, you gotta pay, lol.

The only thing I blame Ford for on the s197 is door panel glue, the PoS plastic clutch master cylinder clevis, and the entire remote shifter setup. It's RWD not FWD!!! Get your measurements and engineering done right the 1st time dipshits.

I was thinking more like 2020 cars. For sure in the rock paper scissors word, 3460/420 beats 3720/435 at 8 lbs per 1 HP. For 2020, I think they are closer to 4000lbs but I could be wrong. Even at 3760 you would need about 40 HP added to 420 to be even. I went through a test drive thing before the virus and the only car I felt was faster was a ZL-1 at $60,000 or so. No test drives allowed for the GT350 or 500. Only black key test drives for the Hellcat.

Why didn't they let you take GT350/500 out? That doesn't seem like a successful business plan.

Perhaps your friend's car is actually a 2010? Check the build date. You can get get it from the VIN or a Marti Report.
Look, I have been around the block more than a few times, and then some. Buddy's 2011 is a COYOTE. The 11-12 cars all say "5.0" on the sides. My 2010 sez..." GT" on each side, that's the ONLY difference between a 2010...and a 2011/2012. Trust me, we have lined up dozens and dozens and dozens of 2010-2011-2012 mustang's side by side at car shows.
