06’ GT here... but I got the Raxiom projector headlights and put in some Amazon H13 LEDs with the little heat sink fans and they are awesome. As good if not better than my wife’s Audi.
Any chance you could take a picture of the light output from inside the car at night?

Would you happen to know the type/brand of H13 LEDs you purchased from Amazon? I've been running the Putco H13 Silver Lux LEDs for nearly 5 years, but their just not quite bright enough for my liking. So perhaps, the Raxiom projector headlight setup with H13 LEDs your running just might be the right option to consider looking into

Not the best pics... and they are H7 bulbs not H13

So was this is a typo when you posted about putting in some Amazon H13 LEDs in the Raxiom projector headlights? If the bulbs are in fact H7 rather than H13? then it would appear the Raxiom projector headlights are designed only for H7 size bulbs

Okay, thanks for clarifying :waytogo:

Holy shit dude that’s literally the kind of beam pattern I’m looking for. Wow that’s a massive improvement over my cars beam pattern.

Exactly the same kind of beam pattern I'm looking for as well. I just don't quite understand how the beam pattern is so much better with LEDs in projector headlights over LEDs in reflector headlights. It was from my understanding that LEDs are mostly compatible with reflector headlights while HIDs are designed more for projector headlights

Reflector housings are made for halogen and really suck with anything else. Projectors focus the light and have a shield that gives a nice cut off line.

Reflector housings sure do suck with anything other than halogens lol. It's no wonder the Putco Silver Lux LEDs aren't bright enough. I suppose if your going to stick with OEM reflector housings? then your probably just better off upgrading to either Sylvania Silverstar Ultra or Phillips X-tremeVision halogen bulbs

I'm pretty happy with my saleen HID's .
They do pretty damn good for a reflector/HID setup, even compared to my 2020 Explorer ST.
The ST is definitely better but the saleen's do a pretty good job of lighting up those fucking deer standing in the ditch that are about to embark on a suicide mission.

Reflector housings are just an outdated design and to be honest I don’t know why manufacturers still use them to be honest. It makes sense on a cheap economy car like a Fiesta but the Mustang? I think Ford realized their mistake in 2013 and updated all Mustangs to projector housings but those are stupid expensive. Good news though looks like Raxiom headlights are a great option for a fraction of the price. Until now the only ones that I thought for sure would be great were the Morimoto XB’s but $725-800 they’re still pretty steep.

But yet manufacturers and even Raxiom put halogen bulbs in their projector headlights and the reason? it is technically illegal to operate LED or HID bulbs for headlight use in the USA.

Street Use of LED Bulbs

Diode Dynamics is suspending the sale of LED Headlight bulbs in the United States, due to federal regulations which restrict the use of replaceable light sources in headlamps. This restriction applies to all LED Headlight bulbs on the market. It is not unique to Diode Dynamics.

Our LED Headlight bulbs were designed and tested for effective photometric output, providing increased output with compliant beam patterns when installed in specific applications. However, the federal regulations do not include any provision for LED replacement headlamp bulbs. Therefore, it is not currently possible to certify any LED bulb for headlamp use.

The regulations are updated very rarely, with the last major revision occurring in 2007. However, we maintain hope that progress will be made so that advances in technology may be accommodated in the future. Newer technologies like LED lighting offer many potential benefits to consumers, which we believe should be incorporated into the regulations.

We apologize for any disappointment or frustration, and hope you will be able to find an alternate solution for your headlight needs. We are pleased to continue offering bulbs for other applications on your vehicle, as well as our highly-rated lamps and offroad lighting products. Thank you for your understanding and support.

International customers may continue to find LED Headlight bulbs available in their market, based on local laws and regulations.

Your words.... According to aftermarket vendors such as Diode Dynamics, they had to discontinue offering LED/HID conversion kits for headlight use due to the crackdown from the DOT.

This is not true. They offer them for several vehicles. The ones recalled were, again for glare and ONLY a specific bulb size.

Actually, it is in fact very true. At this point, you haven't provided any documentation such as links from the Diode Dynamics website to back up any of your claims. On the other hand, I've provided links from the Diode Dynamics website time and time again as documented proof. Therefore, I was in fact correct about DD having to discontinue selling LED/HID conversion kits for headlight use due to DOT regulations. That being said, not my words, but rather straight from the horse's mouth!

Fog Light and DRL LED Bulb Replacements

APPLICATION NOTICE: LED bulbs are legal in the USA for Fog Light use only. Not compliant with DOT / FMVSS108 and not street legal in the USA for Headlights. Legal for off-road use in ATV, snowmobile, and off-road racing use. International legality varies by country. Note: This usage regulation is not unique to Diode Dynamics bulbs. All LED bulbs from all brands, regardless of marketing claims, are prohibited from street use in halogen headlights in the USA. Click here to learn more.

If you are looking to swap out your factory fog lights or daytime-running light (DRL) bulbs, upgrade to LED fog lights and DRL bulbs. Standard halogen bulbs give off a yellowish light and wear out quickly. Our replacement DRL bulbs are available in a 6000K cool white, while our LED replacement fog light bulbs are available in 6000K cool white or a pure yellow. Both options add increased light output with a more modern appearance to your vehicle.

We also offer replacement bulbs for OEM HID setups in a wide array of sizes, so you can easily find bulbs that will fit your vehicle. You'll find OEM HID setups on many premium trims, from makes such as Infiniti, Ford, Cadillac, Dodge, Chevy, Acura, Jeep, Nissan, Lexus, GMC, Honda, Hyundai, and more.

These bulbs also feature a simple plug and play design that will fit your factory housing without the need for modification. Whether you are looking for a cosmetic upgrade or are looking for increased light output, we offer the LED fog light and DRL bulbs you need.

6DE322D5-CD57-47C4-BCF1-BBC2CC352AB2.jpeg Bought these almost two years ago to use in stock headlights. Very happy with brightness and pattern.
Pattern is pointing to the left because I took this photo after a surprise snowstorm and was going sideways at the time.

Made my own last year; actually not too bad to do it yourself. 3" projector internals that I bought from ebay along with a kit to mount them to the existing reflectors. Took a couple of days (if one is reasonably mechanically inclined) and a decent tool box including a couple of extra tools (heat gun; Forstner bits, wiring, soldering gun, connectors, rubber bits and pieces). Added SMD halos and turn signal indicators. Actually, I think it looks fairly stock and could have been offered as an aftermarket upgrade. Also added Roush fog lights to an aftermarket bumper (originally designed for cooling ducts) which I think go well with the setup I have. Light output is insane with good cutoff so glare isn't a problem. White halo for courtesy lights; yellow halo for turn signals. Never have had LE mention them or even look twice... too busy checking out the rest of the car...;D

I'm considering either the new Morimoto 2 stroke 3.0 H13 LED kit for the stock reflector housings or go with Raxiom projector headlights and replace the H7 halogen bulbs with GTR lighting ultra 2 LEDs.. The only downfall with the Morimoto 2 stroke 3.0 in dual filament H13 bulb sizes, is the lower light output of 1860 lumens per bulb which still use the older Philips Lumileds Luxeon Z ES LED chip technology. But other than that, it's a really well made, high quality design IMHO.

Good job. When I had my Civic Si I retrofitted S2000 projectors in the headlights. Since there’s no kit for it I had to figure out the vertical, horizontal and rotational alignment on my own. Held together with nuts and bolts and JB Weld.
