Possibly silly question but you do know that the rear caliper pistons have to be screwed back in, right?
I've heard of people trying to push the pistons back in and having a hard time. Of course, that being because there's special tools needed to twist them back in.

Yes I know and I understand this design is prone to freeze with low use. It might be the very reason I though the stock brakes on a Base Mustang did not compare with brakes on a new ZL-1. I might have been using just the front brakes for some time. The split is 70% front to 30% back. If I look at the various "As Built" data for the ABS system, this split might very widely.

I bought the brackets from the guy on Ebay and installed them on my 14 TrakPak and the rotors I bought from Ford are the GT500 rotors, not cheap at $90 each, but that and the pads still made the job a lot easier than buying the Ford parts and pulling the rearend apart. I used an etching primer, than chassis black on the brackets. I sold the last pair to a guy on this forum over a year ago, but if you contact the guy on Ebay he will sell you a set. I also used the Shelby reservoir for the brakes as stock the brakes and clutch share the same reservoir and if you ever to track the Mustand or do some serious corner carving for more than 10 miles you'll see what your clutch feels like...it felt like butter and even with the TrakPak Brembos trying to negotiate 55mph turns well into 3 digits was a little interesting. For you street guys it's really not necessary, but does look different when a Mustang guy looks under the hood.2014 Mustang1.jpg old Mustang3.jpg

Vorshlag did sell the kit, caliper brackets, rotors, calipers and pads. That,s what I used on my car. I didn't see it on their web page, when I bought the kit in October, I had to wait a few weeks until they got the brackets. When I bought the car someone screwed up the 410 gears, so axles were coming out anyway. I bought the brembo front caliper, rotors and pads for $100, 490 for the rear $590 total. Is worth it for that price. Car stops better, bigger brakes better stopping.

I did the rear rotor upgrade back in 2017. No issues, no complaints. I decided to go with the full OEM part replacement method over the adapter bracket. It does costs more than using the brackets, but it just felt better doing it that way. I used the same parts that are on the GT500, so I knew it would be at least that level. If you are considering either method, Do It! It is a nice upgrade to the car. Helps with brake heat issues and looks awesome. As Rugermack mentioned Vorshlag did have a full kit for making the swap. I searched their site but looks like it was removed. Might contact them if interested.

@Olerodder, I have been looking into separating (divorcing) my Clutch from the Brake hydraulics. Saw you have done it and have a few questions. Not intending on hijacking this thread, but just wondering....

I like the looks of your install for this and have these questions... Sounds like you used the Shelby kit, is that correct? I like that kit, but boy $200 seems like a lot for what you get, worth it? Still the route on the top of my list. So, how long have you had it installed? What are your thoughts on method you used to separate? I have read a few entries on the various forums that there have been problems with leaking when using the Wilwood tank (usually in a self made kit not necessarily the Shelby one). Have you experienced that? Saw a few others entries that felt 4 ounces of tank fluid was not enough. Your thoughts on this? Guess the biggest question is with hind sight would you do it today, did you get the benefits it promised? Also one last question, what tank if not Wilwood(Shelby) and what are the approximate dimensions of the tank you used?

...I thought Vorshlag sold those adaptor's ?

We used to sell a brake kit to upgrade the S197 from the little 11" to the 14" diameter GT500 rear rotors, which we sourced from Ford. This style is safer than these eBay-looking adapters, from the images we've seen in this thread.

I liked selling these Ford based solutions, even though we never made much money off of them. It was just a good way to improve longevity of rotors and consumables on track cars.

During the 'Rona the availability on EVERYTHING we got from Ford became unpredictable, then prices went up like crazy, which made all of our brake upgrade kits sourced from Ford "money losers".

I talk further about why we turned all of these "brake upgrade kits" off on our e-commerce store, in the link above. In that post I give cheaper/better ways to source these parts than we can provide.

Cheers,

I did it for my own personal use, and both the rear aluminum adapters for the GT500 rotors looked like a substantial piece and worked well in the 6k miles I used them as did the Shelby Reservoir for splitting the clutch from the brakes and never had an issue. Yes, you need to be careful when installing the reservoir to make sure it is tight, but not over doing it and I did add just a little brake fluid after driving for a few a miles. The price as less than $200 and it's not a screaming deal, but worth it for me to get everything you need in one package. It did work as advertised and I lost no clutch feel when doing my corner carving.
As for installation, the longest part was taking off the sound tube and installing the plugs. Maybe an hour or two, I usually work slow and methodical to make sure everything is done to my standards which are very high.
At the time this was the only kit available to do what I wanted as this was back in 2016, if there is a better kit on the market today I can't say.
Personally trying to kludge something together that may or may not work is something I would never do. The Shelby kit has been used 100's of times, and for the people that say it's leaking...well, maybe they don't how to work on cars...for me it worked and I was satisfied. I no longer have the 14 TrkPk and now have a 2019 PP1/A10, so I can't give you any dimensions.

Thanks for the response. I am leaning towards the Shelby kit, but wanted to see what your thoughts were. They were very helpful, thank you.

FYI regarding brake usage, I made some heat measurements on my disks (stock GT with EBC yellowstuff pads), in normal driving around town and highway the temperature on all disks are almost equal. The rear Yellowstuff are maybe more aggressive than the OEM pads?

Correct! LMR also states they will fit under 17" rims which I doubt, but still waiting for confirmation from someone actually trying to install them on factory 17".

I have been toying with this for a while, but 05' GT doesn't need rear brakes yet so in a holding pattern.
