Thought I would start a tread on my adventures of doing a Mustang Base to a Track Apps swap and update as I go. I found two clusters. One from a 2014 6cyl Mustang from $125 with 18,000 miles and another from a 2014 GT with 28,000 miles for $200. I am going to buy both. The GT is within 1 hour drive so I intend to pick that up soon. The other is too far to drive so they will have it shipped. Right now I have a little less the 18,000 miles on the Base Cluster. I already installed what is called the "OK" switch which works with both the Base and Trackapp cluster. Picture of Base Cluster to be replaced.

The "OK" switch I got from Rock Auto for about $40. Both airbags are brand new.

I am going to get a new key cut today and try to program it. It's a $10 Chinese knockoff. So this may or may not work. The Forscan connector does work but I will first try to program the key without it per Ford instructions using 2 original keys.

This time it worked. This morning the Ford dealer cut the key for $5 and I followed the procedure for a new key and it works without Forscan. I will order a few more.

Why are you programming keys to the old cluster if you are replacing it with a premium cluster?

These are cheap Chinese knockoff keys so I want to see if they work. They do. I do not intend to get rid of the base cluster and matching original keys for at least several months. The cheap knockoff keys will then be match to the Track Apps Cluster. I will need Forscan for that. First up will be the cluster off the 2014 6cyl Mustang with 18000 miles that was shipped Fed Ex today. I should get it Thursday. The junkyard with the 2014 GT Track Apps Cluster with 28000 miles is giving me the runaround for now. I am not sure which one will be the less work with just plug and play. The 6cyl cluster or the GT cluster.

A little update. After my Track Apps Cluster sat at the Junkyard for 2 days, it's finally on the local Fed Ex delivery truck. This is the 6cyl auto one with 18000 miles. Not sure it's going to be plug and play. Found another one for $75 with 38000 miles same deal 6cyl auto and I told the junkyards I wanted it. It will be shipped next week. I will use it as a back up. The search engine part number is D or ER33 10849 EA to EJ. The Fed EX one is an EE. Many junkyards do not know the difference between clusters. A Cluster is a Cluster. They can want from $50 to $250 for it. The local cluster for $200 was way too much trouble. I found another cluster for $85 from a GT 6 speed in mid USA with 40,000 miles. I might buy that one also. The part numbers are all screwed up so you got to have the junkyard send you a picture. Actually they are nice about this because they don't want you there due to Covid. These track app clusters can be on any Mustang from 2013 to 2014. It seems leather seats is a clue but not always. The "OK" switch is a sure sign. Lots of wrecked Mustangs out their with between 40000 and 80000 miles. Most have basic clusters.

The cluster was delivered around 2:30 today and it looks good. I cleaned it up. I may or may not replace the lens. As you can see from cheap ink, the stock number sticker is all by gone.

Got the old one out. Not easy unless you do it all the time. You really have to man handle it. My lens looks a lot better then their lens.

So everything seems to work even the warning lights for the first few seconds when I turn on the key. All the center fields work but no Track Apps. Again this is from a 6cyl car. The big plus was the cluster, it was within 1000 miles of the original cluster.

So now a PATS reprogram and then I guess the following changes need to be made in the ABS with Forscan for Track Apps.

720-01-01 = F798 EF61 08
720-01-02 = F80F 0000 31

Then

760-01-01 = 056E for Brembo Brakes.

I will do this when the second key arrives Monday.

The hard parts so far. The dash cover just doesn't pop off. You must manhandle it. The two screws can fall into the dash. The cluster connection is hard to reach. The bottom clips really hold on to the cluster as much as the dash clips. The new cluster is hard to reconnect because the connector has a very short lead.

After checking everything out, I reset the new cluster to Factory Settings by the Factory Reset Setting Button and disconnected it for another time. The old cluster was reinstalled and the car started right up. It's just sitting in there loose so I can move the car when I want. I will pick this back up when I get the second key cut at the Ford Dealer for the Forscan PATS. I might buy a new lens. I will also purchase a new battery as the battery now is seven years old. The Ford dealer has a sale on them.

Little update. I purchased a new lens for the Track Apps Cluster. It was $40 from the dealer and made in Mexico July 2020. So with that, I have $180 in a 18000 miles cluster and it looks new. The old cluster is still in the car waiting on the new one. There are two different cluster lens. One for the Base titled "A" and the other for the Track Apps titled "B". They do not interchange.

Now I am back at installing the Track Apps Cluster in my 2014 Mustang Base. The mileage is close enough. So my "as built" data on the base is

BASE

720-01-01 F398 E861 FD
720-02-01 F803 0000 25

TRACK APPS

720-01-01 F788 7F61 88
720-02-01 FA8C 0000 B0

Then both are

760-01-01 016A for standard Mustang both V8 and V6

If I want Brembo it's 056E

I have not done Pats yet but have installed the Track Apps Cluster to get it to work to down load info. Right now because it came from a 2014 6cyl, the track app line item does not work.

Anyone know what these numbers mean? These codes are only in the cluster and not in the ECU. It's been said one of the codes turns on the Track App section.

Thought I would get a comment on how these clusters work and what make them tick. For sure each cluster has it's own programing but why?

Found what I have been looking for. The Codes for 720-01-01 and 720-01-02.

720-01-01 F798 EF61 08
720-01-02 F80F 0000 31

F798 = No Navigation
EF61 = No Navigation
08 = Coyote V8
F80F = Manual
0000 = all cars
31 = Manual.

760-01-01 056E Brembo Equip.

I want to add EF61 changed to EF60 turns off the seat belt chime. Now your really deep into these codes.
