I'm thinking about a driveway camera. Our driveway comes up the side of our property and then turns up into our garage. As a result vehicles are often at our garage without us knowing they even came up the drive or we think someone is there that is not.

Either way, we have no window to that part of the house so to check we have to go through the garage and open the door to look outside. Or let the dog out and see if she runs that way barking.

I don't want an interwebz connected RING type thing. I don't even think I care about recording anything. I just want a camera to connect to a small monitor in our back hall real time. If we think someone is there, turn on the monitor and see. I think of it as a "digital window".

You care about seeing anything at night? Most surv cameras only do black and white @ night and are much harder to see anything. They also mostly come with IR illuminators, but they form a bullet pattern in the center of pic. These extra illuminators work off same 12V as cameras and can light up the whole view (@ relatively short distances, like I use them for front and rear doors).

They also go on-off by themselves via day/night sensor

I'm good with almost any option. I just do not want something that anyone besides me or my wife has any kind of access too. I don't want something that hackers can use or that gives info to anyone without my consent.

Night time isn't really a concern. The light is on if we are awake and that's the only time we'd maybe look at it anyway.

I have something like that on my PC just so I can see out the window with it closed. I just use a regular ol' webcam. The one I happen to have is a Logitech C920 but pretty much any one would do. You just need to run a USB wire that far or get a wireless camera.

I have a Reolink NVR and multiple cameras. Using PoE cameras. Four attached to the house and plugged directly into the NVR, and four of them "remote" either in the shop, or on the outer wall of the shop. Have been pretty happy with it. I also just recently added a solar powered wireless camera to it out by our bird feeders so the woman could bird watch on her home computer while working.
