To me, ceramic coating is really worth the cost. Aside from making your car look good, it makes cleaning a lot easier.

Very true. Like previously mentioned, it is only as good as the person handling the service. It really takes a keen eye to eliminate paint imperfections when correction is being done.

I too bought the ceramic coating and you'll see I got a really nice shine from it. The difference, at 83 years old there's no way I was going to do all that prep work. I'm not saying it isn't needed but I did get an great shine just by washing the car and applying the product.

As 86GT351 says it's only as good as the person doing the work. Maybe my way of applying the coating won't last as long. Time will tell.

I’ve considered doing this to my car since black is such a chore to keep clean..

What’s all involved with typical paint correction before ceramic coating is done?

I did McKees37 SIO2 spray. Pretty good product IMO, and wasnt too bad to apply. I did not claybar or anything, just a good detailing before applying it. Definitely makes water bead, and easier to clean/wash car after. Watch not to get it on the glass if you use it. I have some spots on the backglass. It comes off with some effort though.
Professional application can cost a fortune, but probably with even better results!

In my area prices vary. I have a friend that has been in the detailing business for 35 plus years. I have seen cars or trucks come back from dead when he is done with them. He is a specialist but he charges appropriately. I have seen vehicles that he has put days into getting them perfect. That is what his customer expect. He charges appropriately though as expected. Then there is the guy that worked for him and decided to go out on his own and charges a quarter of the price. I can assure you that you are getting a quarter of the job. There is a reason he does not work for the guy any longer. Doing it properly is really becoming somewhat of an art form.

I've heard of this but haven't really looked into it yet. I'd be interested in learning about the chemistry of it. When I hear ceramic it makes me think stove tops, header coating, and power line insulators, not car finishes.
