OK AutoZone says I have "BAD" Diode in my Alternator.

SO I see no reason why I shouldn't just repair it instead of throwning it in the trash. I will be far more cost efficient for me then trashing it. So what I need to known is has anyone here replaced the rectifier assembly before ? I also plan to replace the brushes and regulator while I'm in there. Any help you can give will be great.

I kept throwing the bank one cam sensor codes and I kept refusing in my mind that it was the diode in the alternator... I finally upgraded with a 200 amp .... All my problems went away...

It's certainly less costly to rebuild your own alternator with a new bridge rectifier, regulator, brushes, and bearings if you have the time, tools, and skill.

I have about a 50/50 success rate trying to fix alternators.
I would just buy a new (not reman) unit. Should be able to find one for ~$100-ish on amazon.

I've not had any good experiences w/AutoZone or any parts store diagnosing alternators. When I thought I had a problem with a very expensive DOB alternator a couple years back O'Reilly's testing machine said it was bad. Took it to another auto store who also said it was bad. Finally took it to a place that specializes in repairing alternators. They tested it and said it was good. Confused, I sent it back to the manufacturer who said it tested good and sent it back to me. Still on the car to this day.

Turned out my problem was a bad ground to the engine so the alternator was in fact fine. Morale of the story take it to someone who specializes in alternators. They'll be able to tell you what, if anything is really wrong with it. Could be something else like cabling or bad grounds.
