Hi everyone,

I’m Looking for a constant 12 volts in the trunk of my 2005 GT. I do not have the optional amp that goes in the trunk but I’m hoping there is a constant 12v feed in some wire harness for the amp, that I can tap into.

thank you in advance!

Trunk light? Not sure if that is on the SJB or not. SJB does not like added draw.

Hi Guys,
Ok great. There might be a constant 12v in the trunk area.
I’m really looking for a power source for a wireless b/u camera. I only drive this car in good weather and only once every week or 2.
I’m now worried that a transmitter that is constantly transmitting may drain my battery. I drive with the running lights on. Should I..... can I....... tap into the running lights without creating a problem??

Yes you can but no need to tap the running lights. I'd recommend you tap into one of the key-on fuses in the passenger fuse box (SJB) using an add-a-fuse. That way it only comes on when the car is running. I believe there are one or two unused positions. To test, use a VOM and turn the key to on (without starting). Probe for 12v in the SJB fuse box. When you find one then turn the key off and check again. When you see 12v turns off when the key is off you've found it.

Since it's for a camera I think I'd also look at tapping into one of the reverse lamps. Take a look at the wiring diagrams: https://iihs.net/fsm/?d=40&f=Component Location Views.pdf&p=12
Check out C451/C461 (Reverse lamps). One side of it will be hot only when the car is in reverse (lamp on).

Should be easy enough to tap/pigtail one of those lines for a camera. Depends on the how the camera feeds and power lines are done. Likely that the power-on feed (12v) is going to be near the head unit in which case you may want to probe the SJB for Key-on 12v. Without seeing the wiring diagram for the camera it's somewhat of a crap shoot. Either way, you have plenty of options to power one.

If you only need KOEO power (Key On Engine Off) power you can pick that up from the white wire on the fuel pump driver module. Of course you'll also have power from that line when the engine is running as well.

For the camera, you can tap into the reverse light wire. This is a switched 12v source only when put into reverse. The white wire on the FPDM connector is the inertia wire for the fuel pump which also has 12v. You could use that, but you may or may not run into issues with the added current draw while using the intertia wire. That is a sensitive area to be adding more current draw. I would just get an add a fuse, and use the (I believe) the third 10amp fuse (3rd from the right on the bottom) this is a switched 12 v source

I installed a backup cam in my 07. I used the reverse light to power the camera and monitor but also installed a diode in the power source from the reverse light. The video signal cable which goes from the camera to the monitor had a 3rd wire for power to turn on the monitor when the reverse light turns on. Grounds of course are common. This works to turn on the camera and the monitor when in reverse. But I wanted a switch on the dash so I could turn the system on so I could see behind the car when not in reverse. So at the monitor end, I found unswitched power from the power outlet and put a diode in that circuit feeding a new dash switch to then feed the power wire coming from the camera. That way, when I turn the switch on when not in reverse, the camera and monitor activate and I can see behind the car. The 2 diodes prevent this power from turning on the reverse light when the switch is on and prevents the reverse light power from paralleling the power outlet circuit. Without the diodes, I would be paralleling 2 power sources when in reverse and the switch is on but I don't run with the switch turned on very much and of course not in reverse very much and the diodes prevent backfeeding. This works great for me and I really like seeing behind the car when not in reverse (I have a trailer hitch and use it for a bike rack so I can see that all is fine behind the car and the straps are still there). I tried a wireless camera but found there was lots of interference from other cars using those lane drift sensor alarms and the image would distort badly. Direct wired is much clearer.
