Since my swap a year ago, I've had the occasional question about the motor, and there's not a lot out there . . . and Brenspeed customer service is the WORST. Completely useless.

So, rather than continue to throw stuff out on various threads, I figure maybe one thread is a good way to exchange knowledge and experience with those who have the motor.

Here's my first question:

Anyone got a windage tray in their oil pan? Right now, I have the stock 6 qt pan with the baffle but not windage tray. I want to upgrade to an 8+ qt. Looks like the 13/14 GT500 windage tray is out, so I discounted that whole pan as an option.

Looks like Moroso 20548 might be a winner. But, when I call Brenspeed, they would only say the "company line" is they don't do windage trays with the B326. They used to have a custom one made for the B302, but not the B326. When asked the reason, the guy couldn't tell me.

Anyone have a windage tray working on the B326? I would assume that stroke length (crankshaft clearance) and oil drainback channels are the two main concerns . . .

I think you've nailed it. The 3.80" stroke length could be enough for the heads of the rod bolts to contact the windage tray (both stock and '13-'14 GT500), so it's likely that the windage tray is just deleted altogether.

The bad thing .... a few years ago, they said the stroke was 3.80 .... now the website says 3.75.

The Moroso windage tray says it works for both the 4.6 and the 5.4. The 5.4 has a 4.165 stroke, so it seems clearance would be there ...

How bad is the windage, how much HP is it costing?

I'd go dry sump. Get someone to do a survey of the bottom of the engine, model it in CAD, have a custom sump designed and machined along with a mount for the pump. Put the tank where the battery is, move the battery to the trunk. Done!

If that's the case, with a 3.70" bore and a 3.75" stroke it's really a B323.

yea, that's what I just calculated yesterday.

when I was having it built, they said it was actually a 327, but that's a Chevy thing so they don't market it that way. So, either it's a 3.80 stroke or he was telling me something that was no longer true.

I'm going to give the Livernois windage tray for iron blocks a shot. They claim the channels will line up for the Boss block (which is what is used with the B326), and will work if the stroke is 3.75 or less.

I ordered the Moroso 8 qt pan. Couldn't decide if the road race version with the extra baffling was with the extra $100 ...

I have the Moroso 20548 seven qt without the windage tray and the billet oil pump gears MMR with high volume oil pump. No issues but I only have 1,000 miles on my B326.

I’ve had good luck with Brenspeed so far. But I am an old fart (65) just playing out my teenage years I guess. Just want to blow my hair back a bit in my 07 vert, having fun and maybe turn a few heads.

I ended up getting the 20546 (non-road race).

I see that the Moroso pans are 8 qts in some places, 7 qts elsewhere.

Are you finding it only takes 7?

I have a 4.75 stroker, and the arp studs at the front of the engine interfere with my newly installed windage tray, so I clearanced the windage tray. Not sure if you are in the same boat.

I stopped dealing with Brenspeed, when their revised tune, fomrmy paxton was not much better than my canned tune they sent me... I think they are a better hands on outfit. imo

Same here, the normal ford gt500 windage tray clears my 4.75" crank with minor effort. And its a very nice windage tray for relatively low money. The gt500 aluminum pan fits fine too.

There were both 4.75 and 4.8 cranks, so you could have either. Not a big deal.

If you are buying a moroso pan than I would for sure go with the road race pan. Its worth the extra 100. Don't worry about the 7 or 8 qt thing. Just fill it to the low or mid point on the dipstick and figure out for yourself how much you'll need to next time. A good pan, tray and trap doors will let you run lower oil levels for even less windage without worry of oil starvation.

Lastly dry sumping a s197 is a major effort and expense. Even most of the guys road racing them just go with a good pan and an accusump for insurance.
