Hey All,

Long term enthusiast of these cars... finally pulled the trigger on a beautiful 2007 Mustang GT 5 Speed manual from a long term owner last year. I've done a few appearance mods and plan more as time passes. Slow and steady :)

As I've been going through the car bit by bit, one area I have wanted to plan (a bit more long term) is suspension. I have had to replace some items just due to normal wear. Currently at 76,000 miles.

Still in the planning Stages, but I have gone back and forth about a suspension package like the FRPP Assembled handling pack vs Roush. Then I began thinking for my style, I may be able to piece together a nice package in stages.

Let me know what you think of this. I am not an aggressive driver, no track at all of any kind, etc. Just want a sporty setup. I'm big into trucks so Bilstien is a very good name I know and prefer. Also seems to be a solid blend of stock like comfort, but with the added handling benefits of a better monotube shock.

- Bilstein B6 Shocks/Strut with FRPP P springs and GT500 strut mounts. I only want 1" or less of drop.
- GT500 Front Lower control arms (will be replaced as maintenance when that time comes)
- Steeda Rear Upper Control arm - Rod End
- Steeda Billet Rear Lower Control Arms w/ poly ends

Then eventually add Adjustable front and rear Steeda sway bars.

Like I said, just in planning stages (probably next spring) but I am doing a lot of reading and this seems like a solid set-up for my needs. The car is a semi-daily driver for now.

I have a set of FRPP "P" springs that I'd let go for a reasonable price (only on the car 2 weeks). I also recommend Bilstein B6 Struts/Shocks. Excellent dampers IMHO. PM me if you're interested.

People with the Roush setups do seem happy. Thanks for the input.

Thanks for that, I'll keep it in mind. This combo really does seem like it fits what I'm after. I found various people with the P springs during my research, and the cars sit exactly what I want.

Buy this stuff:
Buy one roll of toilet paper get M-5300-K Spring kit with FRPP Dampers and Shelby Strut Mounts FREE! | S197 Mustang Forum - S197Forum.com

Save a fortune. "The P springs barely drop your car and you'll probably be disappointed with them and wish you were lower." - other forum person.

I would buy upper strut mounts from vorschlag - if they can get something for you, or maximum motosports.

The P springs sit how exactly I like them and envision my car. I'm just not into these cars being as low as many. Just preference. Thank you for he link though.

Have you called BMR? Their customer service is second to none. Tell them what you want to do and they will steer you in the right direction. I have used them for my last two builds.

Save yourself a ton of time and guessing and consult a knowledgeable resource. Call Kenny Brown for a one on one discussion of your goals. If you are not familiar with who he is just do a little Google searching. He has been an innovator in this game for a long long time.

BMR theory seems to be, heavy springs with light sway bars.
Steeda, lighter springs with heavier bars.

One may ride better than the other, I went with Steeda springs, sway bars, CC plates, and Koni Yellow adjustable dampers. Very pleased with them. Call and talk with Rod.

I set my dampers to soft for cruising and firmer for track use.

I have the bmr lowering springs drag version but they make a couple versions. You’d probably be happier with the street performance version since you don’t take it to the track. Right now I just have sr performance shock and strut kit but those were put on by the previous owner I plan to go with a coil over setup in front and maybe some 50/50’s in the back. As for the rest of my suspension so far I have mostly bmr branded stuff. Got their rear lower control arm relocation brackets and adjustable lowers, bmr adjustable upper and bmr adjustable pan hard bar. If you are going to lower the car I’d definitely get the relocation brackets for the lowers and a bump steer kit up front. I have a cheap sve bump steer kit think it was like $90 and so far so good have about 5000 miles on it. I will try to attach a pic of my car so you can see how it sits on those springs but honestly the car drives and rides better than new and it’s got over 100k miles. I take my car to the drag strip every now and then so next think I’m working on after the stocks and coil overs will be subframe connectors then a tubular k member and a arms up front. Well I’m pretty much a dinosaur and can’t figure out how to post a pic but those bmr springs dropped it a good bit maybe more than you’d like since you said you don’t wana drop it too much but personally I really like the look. I have a set of Mickey Thompson et streets on back 285-35-19r with 255-40-19r up front and they take up all the space in the fender wells which I like.

Don't buy a rod end upper control arm for the rear end. They make a ton of noise. But if you are dead set on getting one, I'll sell you mine for 1/2 price that still looks and practically is new.

Looks great- I have had five S197s and used the Roush Package, the FRPP package and Koni Yellows with springs...
My Favorite Setup for street driving is what I have now on my '08 Calif Special Coupe... Bilstein's with Motorsport upper Strut Mounts and stock springs with a set of solid (Steeda) lower control arms. There are plenty of cheaper lower controls arms that would be fine but I liked the look of the billet Steeda stuff. To me the Roush stuff is good- a little pricey and the Bilstein's feel better, the Ford Racing stuff was pricey and noisy but it felt very good. The best on the Track was the Konis and springs but it was hell on speed bumps/driveways. Good Luck and have fun.

What kind of noise? I installed the steeda spherical bearing on mine when I lowered it, and I have noticed a popping sound when turning. I've had trouble tracking it down, and now I'm wondering if it could be the bearing thing.

I’ve got the Roush track suspension kit complete with the matching shocks/struts and sway bars On my 07. Car rides fantastic and handles much better than stock. I also added a Steeda watts link. Wow what a difference. Car keeps power to the ground much better around bumpy corners. Only negative was I had to use the Steeda rear sway bar on the rear when I installed the watts link for clearance And it rides too stiff for my liking. Probably going to upgrade to a white line watts link so I can run my roush rear sway bar.
As far as rear lower control arms I’ve got the GT500ones. I believe it’s what came stock on 2010-14 GT’s. Almost no wheel hop and very well dampered.

I put mostly Whiteline adjustable suspension products in my 09 vert, not racing just wanted the car to go straight and corner flat on the back roads. I had BMR rear control arms but they squeak even with the expensive grease but what can you expect for $100. Stay away from the cheep crap. I installed Ford Performance A-Frames & ball joints since I had a clunk in the front and Ford ball joints aren't the best, stock coupe front struts and springs and stock coupe rear springs also a strut tower support.. The coupe springs lowered the vert around 1.5" -2" and still have a good ride. Figured I would throw that in for any Vert readers.
If you are doing up-grades in steps buy in the winter, prices are lower and a lot of sales before Christmas. Bought all mine in the winter of 19 as the prices went down but it kind of got away from me spending to much time on the computer during the cold weather.

I dont know if it would pop when turning. Mine made noise over bumps and on/off the gas. It was a metallic clanking noise. If I removed the bottom of the back seat it was way worse. I gave up on it and bought this instead https://www.bmrsuspension.com/?page=products&productid=944&superpro=0

I played around with suspension on my 07 vert, finally happy with Steeda coil overs. I can adjust for ride and firmness. I’m not a racer, just searching for great stance and ride. Love these S197s.

I have a 2007 GT I bought las summer, with low miles. I went with Bilstein struts and shocks, not adjustable but monotone construction. I like the monotone for more consistency if you are going to be doing driving that may cause your struts and shots to heat up. Spring I went with 1" Pedders. They have nice springs. They are a linear rate. Linear springs are consistent, and they ride a little more harsh. I previously had progressive Ford Racing K springs with Ford Racing starts and shocks, they were just a tad softer, however the 1.5" drop, I just had too scrapes driving daily. With the Pedders and Bilstein I never have that issue, and never bottom out, which was the case with the Ford setup.
As for the rest of my suspension I went with Kenny Brown K front k member grip kit. On the rear I went with the Kenny Brown upper control and lower control arms with spherical bushings. I originally had the Kenny Brown rear grip kit with no rear sway bar. Kenny Brown rear grip kit will not allow use of rear sway bar, even though he says it can. Kenny Brown uses higher rate spring in his builds, hence coilers. Car handled well, softer ride, but it gave me a little too much push in the turns for my taste, so I went to a front and rear Steed adjustable sway bars, and removed the rear grip kit. If you do decide to go full coilover, the rear grip kit would be perfect, as to work with higher spring rates. You could also go with the Eibach adjustables front and rear. My car runs completely flat, and near neutral handling, with the center holes used on the sway bars, I have not tried the other holes. Also, Kenny Brown lower control arm relocation brackets. For the front sway bar end link I am currently running Full Tilt Boogies with FK rod ends. Steeda is okay, be careful lubing with grease through the zero fittings, they can pop easily. I had Maximum Motorsport end links, and they are great, no noise whatsoever. The Kenny Brown upper and lower rear control arms also come with FK rod ends. FK is pretty much the best rod ends to go with, you are not using poly. As for caster/camber plates use the Maximum Motorsports. Also, on the front I am running Kenny Brown bump steer kit. As for panhard bar I am running Steeda adjustable with poly business, and Steeda lanyard brace. Sometime I get popping with the rod ends, every once in a while.
