05 GT with Edelbrock E-Force @ 8-9# of boost and E85 Lito tune, 3.73 gears, automatic transmission with a TCI 2800 stall converter.
Currently, I have 295/45-18 Nitto 555G2 on the back, and 255/45-18 on the front. They are ok at road course track days, but they are useless at the drag strip. I want to get a set of MT ET street drag radials. I don’t plan on any bracket racing, I just want to be able to run decent times and not waste my time at the drag strip.
I have to stay with 18” wheels to clear my Wilwood brakes. There are four sizes available to me that should fit 275/45-18, 285, 305/40-18, and 305/35-18. Which do you think will give better traction? I think it will be the 275’s.

I was running 225/50/16 Hoosier dot drag radials before my brake upgrade. 1.6 60 ft. Several inches of air under the front tires at launch. I say run the narrowest/tallest tire. Good wrinkle light weight. I have adjustable shocks/struts. Full stiff in the rear, full loose in the front.

Not exactly what you asked but when I was looking for Mickeys I could not find them. Still can’t find them in stock. Soooo, I shitcaned the 555G2s I had on the back and replaced them with NTO5s. 315X45-18s do fit on 10” wide wheels and are far superior at inline traction. They don’t rub on my lowered stang but they do poke a bit. If you jump on them in the rain the ass will pass you. :)

Narrow and tall, that’s what I was thinking. I have Strange adjustable shocks on the rear. With the Nitto’s, I got bestresults set on 3 out of ten.

Yeah, i was looking at both MT or NT05. Discount tire by me can get MT’s in five days. I got plenty of time though , wife just had shoulder surgery and I won’t be going racing till July at the earliest.

I've run every drag radial out there and found the best results were from the MT Street R. The NT-05R were one of the worst. I would run the regular nitto DR before the NT's, but neither of those will compare to the MT Street. I always have gone with the widest tallest tires that I can fit and then do the rear end gearing to compensate. So with my 305/45/18's I run a 4.11 gear but my effective gear ratio is about 3.83 which is pretty good for my blown automatic.

With the 3.73 gears, would not the 275/45-18 be the right size?

There is no right size. It all depends on what you want your final drive ratio to be. Some people prefer a taller gear and some a shorter. Just always figure tire size into your calculations as it will effect your times. I think I used a conversion chart on a 4wd website or a drag website.

I’ll rephrase, since I’m not going to be changing gears, would not the shorter tire be a better choice?

It all depends on what you want. I was looking for about a 3.90 gear ratio so I went with 4.10 gears and a 29" tire. If you want to keep your final drive ratio the same as it is now stick with the stock tire diameter. If you want a shorter gear or higher ratio go with a shorter tire. If you want a taller gear or lower ratio go with a taller tire.
