Hi guys,
I have a 2005 GT 5 speed. It has 24k miles and is running well. A JLT CAI and a brenspeed tune. The serpentine belt is most probably original or at minimum, it is old. I’ve heard the the motorcraft belt is the best for fitment and should not squeak or squeal. What do you all think? Thanks in advance. tom

I think that of all the things I gotta worry about, the brand of belt on my car is so far down the list that I never even considered it before your post.

My last truck was a 2002 F150 that I owned for 15 years and put over 200K miles on it. When I was at about 75K or so I bought a new belt just for kicks. Old belt had some minor cracking but was fine. So I put on the new belt and tossed the old one behind the seat as a spare. When I traded in the truck 2 years ago both belts were still fine. Belts simply don't fail like the old V belts used to. If you like Motorcraft then so be it. Can't go wrong there.

And lose the Brenspeed tune and have Lito tune your car. Big difference.

For something as simple as a JLT CAI, the Brenspeed tune will do just fine. My very first mod was the JLT 3 with Brenspeed 91 octane tune and it was a night and day difference over stock. I'm still running a Brenspeed tune now after 7+ years and I'm very happy with it. That said, I do agree that for more radical mods such as cams or forced induction, a custom email tune by Lito is undoubtedly the best option.

Gates green

That's the exact belt I'm running.

Hi Guys,
Ok, so I’m clear, My research shows the green gates part number for the serpentine belt for my Mustang GT (2005 4.6L V8) as K061015HD. Can you confirm?
Again….
Thank you in advance.

Attempted a cross reference search on gates website using OEM Motorcraft part# 4R3Z-8620-EC.. Zero results! Therefore, I wasn't able to confirm if the gates green part number K061015HD is the correct serpentine belt for your 2005 Mustang GT or not

Thank you Laga. I know now I’m in the ball park. The …015 is what is spec’d. The recommendation was to go with the green line gates which is actually …..015HD….. I think. still hoping for a confirmation on that from anyone who has the gates green line belt.
thank you!

I ran a cross match of this Gates K061015HD: Gates FleetRunner Micro-V Serpentine Belt K061015HD | O'Reilly Auto Pa (oreillyauto.com)
vs this Gates K061015: Gates Micro-V Serpentine Belt K061015 | O'Reilly Auto Parts (oreillyauto.com).

O'Reilly shows the Gates K061015 fits your 2005 Mustang 4.6L V8 but the Gates K061015HD O'Reilly shows to not fit your car.........but if you actually go & check the effective length & outside length of both K061015 & K061015HD you'll see that they are exactly the same so from this info the Gates K061015HD should fit your '05 Mustang GT 4.6L V8 as well since all physical dimensions given for both part#'s are identical.

Now why O'Reilly Auto Parts doesn't show the Gates K061015HD belt as a fit for a '05 GT 4.6L V8 I can't answer but all indicators show that this belt should fit.

Hope this helps.

PS--Just thought about this & my intuitive guess that since this Gates K061015HD belt is specified for fleet truck usage instead of passenger car usage is why O'Reilly doesn't show it to fit a Mustang...........

I just bought a new belt myself. I went with Motorcraft. I though of gatorback but I'm not able to find it here.
Have you checked rockauto?

The reason you weren't able to find Gatorback belts, is because their no longer in production.. Continental Tire acquired the drive belt division of Goodyear. Therefore, for those interested in Gatorback belts? will have to settle for Continental Poly-V drive belts..
