It's all about the future
And the money. Kind of a perfect scam to start a new taxation system on something that no one really seems to understand (carbon credits) and just keep upping the taxes until your citizens are back under your control.

It get's worse. Now Vancouver is gonna charge $1000.00 for a parking permit, for folks that own SUV's...and "sports cars". And this is to park out on the street..in front of you own home.
Pure insanity. They already pay stupid amounts of property tax.

And the folks that buy the 100% EV vehicles..... they will get nailed with a massive annual vehicle taxation fee.... to offset the massive lost tax revenue on gasoline. In essence, the 100% EV saves you...nothing.

Its all about the money. Someone didnt think it through with EVs, and only thinking short term. Loss of road tax from lost fuel revenue needs to be recooped somehow....

Here in Canada it's worse. 5% GST, 7% PST, fed road tax, provincial road tax, transit levy, carbon tax A-B-C, road improvement tax, environmental tax, plus several more. In several states, they are already on top of the lost revenue scenario, annual license fees have increased for hybrids..and even more for plug-in hybrids....and through the roof for 100% EV's.

The ads conveniently "forget" about those hidden costs.
Im all for more ppl to buy EVs and hybrids, it drives gas price down! Thank you greenies.

In some states, they take the annual mileage on the 100% EV cars as part of the 'formulae' at the local DMV office. Some were as high as $800-$900 per year, annual licensing fee, wtf? Any potential savings with the use of the 100% EV...just went out the window. Then toss in the megabuck battery replacement after 7-10 years, and you are actually 'saving'.... nothing.

On a side note, Saskatchewan, summer of 2019, stopped the program for home owners with solar panels to back feed excess power to the grid..on a one for one basis. The idea of course, was to spin the smart meter backwards during the day, building up a credit, then using that credit at night. You wanted to generate just enough excess power, such that on Dec 31 of each year, you had minimal credit left..and your annual power bill was virtually zero. At the stroke of midnight on Dec 31, any remaining credit is reset to zero..and you start afresh.

I see one state in the USA has also cancelled the same program....with 6-7 more states to now follow. Power companies are fed up with being...'the free battery'. They make zero money from the solar panel folks, yet have to provide regular full power every night...or cloudy days.

The Mach E is not a car, but anyway . . .

This thread is about an EV failure mode that has no true counterpart in ICE vehicles and requires excessive effort to be expended in order to diagnose and repair.

For a whopping $56K, the damned battery better work.

That's about as different from the way I want my cars to drive as you can get.

I don't need, use, or want big acceleration response in the lower speed ranges associated with most non-highway speeds. It'd only make trying to drive smoothly into, through, and out of the corners trickier than it need be. And if you're going to rein all that response in with electronic nannies there's not even much point in having it in the first place.

I need braking to be 100% on me, not shared with unknown amounts of regenerative braking.

I get it. It is not for everyone.

Especially at its replacement or repair cost.

Obviously, even today's technology can be hobbled by (or brought to a screeching halt by) indifferent QC.

With the once in a 1000 year heat wave we are getting on the west coast, the electric load skyrocketed, but the grid was no where near maxed out. We have a new hydro electric damn in the process of being built, which when finished will be the most efficient one built ever, It's also the 3rd hydro electric damn at the end of the previous 2 x damns. 3 in a row, sorta like a 3 for one pizza deal....with all 3 at different elevations.

It baffles me when the power companies are advising folks not to turn on their dishwashers right after dinner, or anything that sucks a load, between 4PM and 7 PM, during the peak, and setting AC to 25 deg C (77F) etc. Meanwhile the 100% EV folks are all sucking 6.6 kw per vehicle..all night long. If the power grid is having a difficult time with some increased AC usage, which is meager vs EV charging, they are in for a rude awakening when EV usage becomes more wide spread. A 20% spike in power consumption, due to AC is one thing, but a 300% increase due to EV's ( down the road) is apples and oranges.

Flip side is, F1 cars are all hybrids, including regenerative braking, and they seem to have it down to a fine art. The 'Formula E' cars are 100% electric, also have regenerative braking... and they too have it down to a fine art, so either method can be made to work from a track car perspective....so it's all seamless and transparent to the driver. But the F1 hybrid / Formula E cars may well be far more advanced in response, and handling vs a consumer street car.

The instant TQ of a 100% EV consumer street car might initially be a hyped up selling feature. Sorta like when CD's 1st came out in the early 80's, the dynamic range was beyond absurd. Most 1st and 2nd generation CD players all included compressors in em, to reduce the dynamic range down to something useable / normal. 6-12 db is ample, 40-60 db is absurd.

When I had VMP tune my 2010 GT + blower, I asked that they don't mess with the throttle response, keep it like oem, which they did. The last thing I wanted was a 'light switch' type of response.
