Hesitation at 3000 rpm

Hello everyone. I bought a 2007 GT in April 2021, 38,000 miles. Mods include Ford Racing cold air intake and Ford racing exhaust. I have put about 600 miles on it. I have noticed, at steady acceleration, a slight hesitation at 3000 rpm. No matter the gear. Not an "on the floor" acceleration, but a steady climb. The engine seems to "give up" for a split second, then it will continue to climb in RPM's with no issues. Car runs fantastic other than this little quirk. Any advice is appreciated!

Are the plugs original? Even with only 38K, they are 14 years old. Check fuel filter, air filter, clean the throttle body. Eliminate all the easy stuff first. Run a couple of bottles of Techron through the tank while putting some highway miles on it with some WOT bursts. Sometimes the ol’ “Italian tuneup “ works. Especially on low mileage cars that have sat a lot.

The 2 previous owner kept excellent records. Fuel filter was changed at 37,000 miles. Last owner told me is was tuned for premium gas, which I run. I have the tuning device, but I have no idea how to use it. Air filter was just replaced with new at 37,000 also.
The plugs. So, after I bought it, I became aware of the dreaded "plugs breaking off" issue. Despite the great records, nowhere does it state the plugs were ever changed. I called the last owner to inquire, and he did say that the previous owner "cleaned" them once.
I'll run Techron through it, see if that helps. Again the car runs fantastic except for this little quirk. I already bought a torque wrench and carb cleaner to remove the plugs per the TSB, I guess I'm just working up the courage. I'm hoping he used the nickle anti-seize when he cleaned them.....
I guess it could also be a plug wire.......

For the tuner, just plug it into ODBII port & it will power. Look for tune files...if they're loaded - check for one that adjusted AFR f/ CAI & exhaust. Alsl they might have separate files f/ various fuel octane levels (e.g. 87, 91 & 93).

Typical behavior for an engine with CMCV (Charge Motion Control Valve) on intake manifold. Google CMCV hesitation Mustang.

Thanks Iceman, I'll try the tuner tonight. Thanks Ekis, I'll check it out.
I put new tires on it today. Before I tried them out, I took off the throttle body. Holy sheetz I was surprised at how dirty it was. I spend 30 minutes cleaning it up with acetone. Took it out for a drive, still runs fantastic except foe that little quirk at 3000 rpm. I did notice that when I "push" it, I can't sense the blip, but when I do a steady climb, it's def still there.

Ekis! Good call, I think this is what I'm experiencing.

3000 RPM is when the charge motion motor opens the charge motion plates in the intake runner. if you want to rule out the charge motion system, wire the plates open, the motor and arms are on the back of the intake manifold (I used a coat hanger formed into a hook to hold arms open) then with your tuner, you can turn off the charge motion system. most ppl delete the charge system all together and use the Steeda plates or gut yours (which is what I did) good luck

Iceman, if I disconnect my battery, will the tune need to be redone?

Disconnecting the battery will not erase the tune in the PCM. The only way to modify or erase the tune is with the tuner device itself.

FYI, don't ever get rid of the tuner device without restoring your stock tune onto the PCM. The tuner device stores your stock tune in its flash memory before it allows you to program a custom tune into your PCM.

^^^Yep^^^

Best to go to manufacturer's site (tuner) and read-up on how it works/functions. Nice little tools, but can get frustrating if you do something out-of-order & f--k up the vehicle's ops.

It's the Ford Racing Procal Tuner. I can't seem to find info on this exact tuner, but I did find newer version info that seems close enough.

I don't know much about the Procal tuner, here's all I could find. Instructions are attached.

https://performanceparts.ford.com/procal/

I use an SCT X4. I don't know if this applies to Ford products, but I had a Diablo Predator 2 for my 2014 SRT Challenger that locked my PCM after I installed the update from their website. I had to ship the PCM to them to get them to unlock it. Here's how it happened:
1. I contacted my tuner for a custom tune and they asked for the firmware revision on the tuner.
2. He wrote a tune file for me and I loaded it into the PCM.
3. Then I went to Diabo's website and updated the tuner's firmware to the newest version.
4. The tuner wrote a new tune for me, at my request, because I installed additonal parts.
5. I loaded the new tune and BAM! The PCM locked and the car wouldn't even turn on.

The problem was I updated the firmware and did not inform the tuner so he wrote a tune based off the old firmware. That's what locked the PCM. If you update the firmware, it may or may not allow the current tune on the device to load without problems. I'm not sure about that so do some research. Having a dead car because of a locked PCM blows hard.
