i dunno if im gonna do a super six build and turbo my 4.0 ,, i know ill need a better driveshaft, and 8:8 rear, ,, i know i can do this quite easy and get 320rwhp and up to 410 rwhp,,

the problem im seeing , or the bottleneck is the trans,, its a manual , and i think they are only good for 300rwhp? i could be wrong , i have an 06 4.0,,

and to my understanding there isnt another trans thats better to bolt up ?

this is why im debating doing a build, or doing a 4.8 swap

The tranny isn't your only limiting factor 'cause the 7.5" rear axle also isn't strong enough to hold up to 300+rwtq.
You could turbo your 4.0 to bring it up to stock (or mild bolt-on) GT level but sooner or later, you're gonna start breaking drivetrain components.
If you're hell bent on keeping your '06 body style, I suggest you look for a totaled '07-'09 GT500 or '11-'14 GT from Copart to use as a parts donor.

i know about the rear,, hence how i said id need the 8:8 rear,,

i think if i would get a car from 11-14 that would screw me because the dash isnt the same and the connectors are diff, and some other things,,,, i think a 05 -10 would be best cause its pretty much plug and play,, ill check out copart ,, never knew about that ,,, im sure ill have plenty more questions lol ,,, thanks bro

What's up w/ the comma/punctuation & lacking CAPS? :D

JK, sorry I'm used to 35-yrs of military writing training. For your build, agree w/ Dino on the donar car. What's your budget & reasoning/goal f/ this major upgrade? Your goal might aid w/ recommendations...

The 4.0 will take a lot of mods. Several turbo and supercharged cars running with no problems, all on the stock internals. My 2006 I ran nitrous for 2 seasons and then pulled it off and put the Xcharger Xtreme on it with 90,000 miles. It was still running strong with 203,000 on it when my wife said it was time to sell and start another project (the cursed 2013 that I blew up 3 times before selling it).

The guy I sold the 2006 to sold it with 250,000 on it and still running strong on the stock engine.

You can get an adapter plate to upgrade the manual transmission to the 3650.

In that case you could do the following and have some fun:

1. Turbo your 4.0.
2. Buy a used TR6060 6-speed tranny, GT500 driveshaft, GT500 rear axle, plus the adapter plate JimC suggested.

If you eventually blow up the 4.0 V6, you could then do a GT500 engine swap as well.

Haha...Yes. Guess what - writing annual award packages now on the good 'Ol AF1206. =8^)

OP, no worries - all in good fun. I believe the other recommendations got you covered & $5 f/ the donor car is doable. I see them all the time here on CL. Good luck w/ the build & keep us posted on progress. Always fun watching & following the mods.

i think the plan is this,,,,,
turbo the 4.0 ,, get a driveshaft , 8:8 rear,,
once that is done,, kinda like bambino said,, il do a 5.0 swap or 5.2 ,, since id already have the drivline done,, id just have to get a ecu , engine and trans..

eaither way this is gonna start in about 1 month so ill deff keep a log on here with pics and updates,,, thanks guys

I recently sold my 4.0L turbocharged V6 that had a TR6060 trans/driveshaft/8.8 rear end.
It was indeed a real sleeper, lol, and dyno'd 368rwhp/398rwtq on light boost/91 octane..on bone stock engine. To me, driving it vs. a new stock 2012 GT (base coyote), there was no significant difference in the power and handling (with it's upgraded suspension).
I could easily have hit/exceeded 400 rwhp if I wanted to, but this was more of a street car and I had no desire to see how much power I could make with it. It was a very very fun car to drive, for sure! The 6-speed trans made it so much fun.
Now, this car was set up this way back about 10 years ago (by the previous owner), and he had put in a Pipeline turbo kit, the trans adapter plate mentioned by Jim, and the transmission/driveshaft/rear end. I don't know how much $$$ he put into it, but it was quite a bit.
The ONLY mods I made were to put in a different engine (the previous owner ran it lean and detonated/chipped a piston), added nissan valve springs, and changed/rebuilt the rear end/gear change (the 410's were too much for street/highway use).

There are no longer any good new turbo kits available for the 4.0L; there's one or two cheapy knockoff setups out there that have been untested, and look a little iffy at best. Several people have made their own setups or modified signle kits for a 4.6L to fit, and that's an option.
And, for the power levels you're talking about, you'll need a turbo setup to do it. Belt-driven supercharger setups, while still very fun and an give you 300-340 rwph, are still available and easier options. And of course, the engine can easily handle it.

If you want your car to 'look like' a v6 from the outside, dropping in a v8 is, IMO, a better option, especially if you can get an entire donor car (a GT). I came across such a donor about a year ago, and now that whole drivetrain is in another 4.0 v6 body, that I daily drive. Sure it's not as much power as the 4.0 turbo had, but I am very happy with it for how I use it, with its bolt-on mods and custom tuning. And, I can always slap on a low-boost blower if I want to easily jump into the 400's on the stock internals. Cost-wise, the entire donor, swap, mods, etc. was less that the cost it would take to upgrade a 4.0L, since the donor had the transmission I wanted, rear end, engine, etc...everything...at a much more affordable price than any 4.0 blower setup would cost. Just my 2 cents.

yea right now im kinda still on the fence, looking at copart and made an account , seen quite a few gt's i could grab..
to me the price of the adaptor plate , and than the trans , and new clutch alone would buy me a gt from copart (not incl ,, shipping \other fees)

so my buddys rollback wont be avail until about middle of next month ,, id rather go grab it and save the $1000-$1800 in shipping if i can .

at that point i wanna throw the 4.6 in ,, buy an ebay turbo (my buddys had good luck with 3 of them , )
run mild boost until i feel like pulling the engine and rebuilding it with better internals,,

im a cert tig welder for the (THADD) project for a branch off the DOD ,, so id like to think my welding and fab skills are up to par to mock up and make my own manifold and weld all my pipes,,

eaither way , just picked up a 2ton cherry picker and 1000 pound engine stand ,, the ball is starting to roll

If it runs I would switch over All harnesses/electronics to avoid compatibility issues. Otherwise you can try using all of the engine bay harnesses/PCM & SJB. Not sure what else is different in an 06 V6 vs 09 GT. However, if you run across connector differences you'll have to use those sections from the donor car. Safer if you can move everything over to guarantee avoiding no start and compatibility issues.
