I'm sure the buyer is happy. As I said... in my opinion.... it's not worth that kind of money. Not to me.

But Shelby was involved in the GT500 program right up until 2012 when he died.

Licensing a name is a lot different than the product being designed and conceived by the guy with the name.

True, but in most cases, the owner of the name used (Dan Gurney, Parnelli Jones, Carroll Shelby etc) had inputs on the design whether you would like to believe it or not.. The GT500's may have been made by Ford, but rest assured they had to clear the design through Carroll--and they did go through him!
Just like today, Carroll still has input, he assured his company (by picking his replacement ) was ready to go forward when he left us, and that they would keep his vision.

Really, would you want someone using your name on a slow ass Pinto performance car that only had a special paint job? I wouldn't, even if they wanted to throw a ton of money at me!

Thanks for the Shelby History, I think I know alot more of his history than that link you pasted, I have been following him since I was in my teens (a billion years ago)

The entire outside of the car looks horrid to me. But heck, it's advertised with..'electric windows' and also 'air conditioning'. The silver colour is all wrong..and even the wheels look bulked up. The back end is beyond horrid...sorta looks like the back end of a city buss.

I like the full fastback roof though. I heard Ford designers wanted the 2010 refresh to have it but Ford said no because of the glass roof option that nobody bought.

I always liked the front of those but in profile the back half looks just too heavy. I appreciate trying to take the roofline to the edge of the trunk lid but it just makes the back of the car seem so much bigger than it needs to be.
Sometimes a photograph doesn't quite capture the image as it really appears. The side profile provided in the Mecum link seems to amplify and exaggerate the heavy appearance. Many pics of the same car taken from a different perspective seem to show a slimmer more refined design.

These pics seem to capture a slimmer presence.

Although I wouldn't pay the money these cars apparently command, I think they look pretty nice.

As much as I would've liked the 2005-14 S197's with a full fastback roofline. IMHO, I just don't think they would had looked right from an aesthetic point of view. My reasons, first off the design of the S197 cars were never intended for a full fastback roofline. In order for the aesthetics to work, Ford would had been required to change the design of the roofline by shortening the height, similar to the current S550 design, and possibly extend the overall length of the car as well. Otherwise, the dimensions from the B-pillar thru the rear deck lid sections would end up having the visual appearance of looking too short and too heavy.

Not here in Florida. The sun destroys interiors fast enough without it. The '67 and '69 Mustangs both had full fastbacks and looked awesome with them.

Also keep in mind, the dimensions for the "67-70" fastback models were designed for the extension of the rooflines, the S197 cars were not. However, if you took the roofline of the current S550 fastback and place it upon the S197? I do believe it could work aesthetically, at least IMO anyhow

I would have to see one up close, in person before making a final decision on both the appearance and price

I don't think you understand, it could never say Iacocca without permission...So yes in a way his hands (family that owns the name) must have had input
Copied/pasted from Motortrend July 3, 2019...
The passing of legendary automotive icon Lee Iacocca brings to mind the last time he visited MotorTrend, in the summer of 2009, shortly after we moved into our new headquarters in El Segundo, California. He was promoting his limited edition, 45th Anniversary custom-bodied 400-horsepower Ford Mustang and came to our office with one in tow.
