Hello, I'm looking to buy this mustang from a dealership. Im a noob. Are you guys able to tell if the shifter has been changed to Barton/MGW/others? or is it stock?

I'm going to say it is not stock. But I am also going to say I have no idea what it is.

It's not stock, IMO, because the short section of shifter handle below the non-stock knob does not look like what I remember the factory shifter having. It's been a bunch of years, so I could be mistaken. But I lean toward not stock.

It looks very much like an MGW shifter. My Barton shifter looks almost identical except that the shaft is round rather than hexagonal.

That’s an aftermarket knob with a Drake Automotive shift boot collar.

How far is the throw on the shifter? I can shift my Barton from 1st to 2nd with just my fingers moving. The stock shifter will have a longer throw and you'll have to move your hand to shift it.

I can shift my stock shifter with one finger. 1st to 2nd, 3rd to 4th and 5th to 6th.

I thought MGW was the only way to go in S197 Mustangs. Why did you choose Barton?

I'd already tried the MGW on a friend's '08 GT but it was a bit too notchy for my liking. The Barton is equally as precise but shifts more smoothly and feels sturdily built. It might seem a bit pricey but to me, it's very much worth the money spent and I can highly recommend it.

Did you try a 2 generation MGW shifter? It is much better than the 1st gen. one.
