Rear Brake lights stuck on !

Tonight I noticed my rear brake lights were on. Tried every trick in the book. That switch assy on the brake pedal appears intact. (4 way emergency flashers work fine)

I ended up pulling fuse #3 ( brakes) on the SJB fuse box as a temp..'fix'.
Now of course I have no brake lights at all, just running lights.... if lights on.

I did notice some dampness on the carpet, way at the top, just a tiny bit.

Pulled one strand of a pine needle that was stuck in the hole by the dash on pass side window..for the drain. Been raining heavily here the last few days.

What's the fix for this ?? This is on my 2010 GT automatic.

Had (have?) the exact same issue in my 2010. After driving through heavy rain puddles, or if my car was parked on an angle in the rain, my brake lights would stay on. Also had damp p/s footwell like you.

It’s either the cowl area on you p/s under the hood getting clogged with leaves and trapping water that seeps into your car, or a seam in that area that needs to be sealed. I cleared the drain of leaves in the cowl area and was still getting it so I took it to Ford and a tech sealed the area for me.

I guess it must affect the wiring for the brakes in that area. A royal PITA.

I don’t really drive it in the rain anymore, so I’m not sure if it was ever totally fixed.

I replaced my switch just for the hell of it. Didn’t change anything for me

Did test it with a meter to be sure?
Nope. Pitch black, I was hungry and pissed off, so just pulled fuse #3.

If it's just a spst..... or dpst, it should not stick on. I could see it not coming on at all with a defective switch though. Right now, it's really pouring down..and I don't have a garage to work in.

When I get to the underground parking lot..that has loads of light, I will examine further. I'll clean out any crud in the cowl with hood up, drain holes etc.

Working on that brake pedal assy, and also that kick plate and sjb fuse box is a real bitch. You have to be a contortionist. I already have lower back issues as is. I have my hvac guy coming over at noon, so have to deal with that, and then both him and me are off to my friends place after my appointment. I'll use the fusion today, until the rain lets up.

If the sjb got wet, that could cause the brake lights to stick on.
You could check the pcm if it sees brakes applied/not applied. But I seem to recall the brake switch has 4 contacts. 2 for pcm, and 2 for the sjb. The sjb has readable fault codes, you need Forscan to read them.

The 2010 break light switch has two separate circuits. Both SPST. One normal open and one normal closed. Easy to test once you reach the darn thing.

tnx for the info. That's what I thought. BTW, it was fuse #2 I pulled..and not the fuse #3 ( in sjb ).

Turns out it was the switch ! Of course local ford dealer doesn't have one in stock. They ordered one for me, and it arrives in an hr.

Cool. I always laugh when I have to order from the Ford dealer here. Just like in the movie Oh Brother Were Art Thou, two weeks for anything.

There is a little plastic button on the bracket where the switch depresses against. Make sure it is there or the lights will stay on. It looks like this. Ford does not sell separately though. Need to get it from a parts store. Should be available in any parts store in the "Help" section.

Good point. Too bad Ford doesn't sell the 50 cent item in ur pix. In my case, that plastic button is fully intact. It's the dpst switch that is doa.
