I have a 2006 Ford Mustang GT 4.6 3v auto 207k miles. My question is to all the drag racers will the car run a quicker ET manually shifting this tranny?

Car has Cai, full length headers, no cats, dynomax ultraflow race bullets dumped at the rear end, and Lito tuned on street tires.
Best run of 13.27 @103 mph with footbraking car to 2000 rpms and letting the car shift itself.

Picked up a set of nitto drag radials to go back to the track and now I have an issue with a hight rpm miss fire(popping and cracking) only when the car is at wot and shifting into drive. It doesn't do it in any other gears and runs great. Has New fuel pump, filter, plugs, and coils. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Changed fuel filter, but ended up being the spark plugs causing the miss

When I installed new brisk plugs into my 2010 GT ( with small roush M90 blower)... my misfires.... (as indicated on my aeroforce gauges plugged into OBD port) dropped to ZERO. Before it was just a few, like 3-7 on a typ outing. Make sure any new plugs are gapped correctly before installing.

Nice to see another Dayton OH area member. If you want to really wake up your 5R55S - then you need a torque converter and 1 piece driveshaft. When i ran the 5R55S i had the trick flow deep pan , 3rd / 4th servo upgrade , Circle D converter , DSS 1 piece drive shaft on mine. The downside to the 5R55S is that 3 to 4 shift is such an RPM drop and it is hard to tune around it. Lito did my tuning as well when i had the stock PCM. I had to play with some different settings in the tune that to get the max out of the 5R55S. I quickly swapped to a 4R70W once i began to race in earnest.

Here are the articles I used - https://www.mercurymarauder.net/for...Racer-Torque-Converter-amp-TC-Lockup-Schedule
https://www.mercurymarauder.net/forums/showthread.php?73913-Pro-Racer-TP-Absolute-and-TP-Relative

I had ProRacer so I could make changes to the tune file.

I know KilKare is done for the season, but Edgewater is currently scheduled to run test and tune on Saturdays the next three weekends if you still wanted to get some testing in.... Make sure to check their page on Facebook or call before heading down, as if it does turn cold they will cancel. The track had a good turn out this past weekend and the track was sticky and the air was really good.

Yes I have raced a bit at E20. Just a far drive and the traffic to there sucks I prefer to drive about 15 minutes less and head north to La Rue and Marion County Raceway as it is $15 for TnT on Friday's there and they do track rentals at $100 a car as well.

So I'm looking to change the stock gears to either a 4.30 or 4.56 and I'm not worried about gas mileage or long 70 mph freeway driving. Shooting for the best et without adding a stall converter at the moment. Will I need to have litto retune the shift points? Will the car shift into overdrive on the big end?

Honestly a converter is going to yield the best results for the least amount of work. When i did mine - i shaved a half second off my ET and it made it more enjoyable to daily drive. If you want to change gears go with a 4.10 or 3.73 . Neither is hateful on the highway with the OD in the 5R55's .

Never shift the 5R55S into OD at the dragstrip - that is the fastest way to kill it along with downshifting under heavy power to 3rd.

The converter change took me into the 12's. I had cold air intake / 1 piece driveshaft / 3.73 gears / drag radials then added the converter and was running 12's. I added a Whipple 2.3L later and went 11.30's on about 8psi.

I hate to waste money on a converter when it appears that 5r55 isn't a very good transmission to start with. So I think for now I will just go with 4.10 gears. Thanks for the information
