Snake oil. Gas is fine for a year. Gas is "ok" for two years. For things that get very rare use, I add 2stroke oil at 100-150 to 1 on carb'd engines. Fuel injected, I add nothing. Which reminds me, time to change the fuel in the GSXR. Did not ride it at all this year.

I’ve found that fuel stabilizers, especially stabil does more harm than good. Everything I have ever put that crap in has had to have a complete fuel system cleaning or replacement.

Gas that's several months old, like what's in small gas containers, smells rancid when stabilizer is not used....esp if the gas contains any amount of ethanol.

Small containrs huh?
So I have a 2 gallon can for 2 stroke lawn care tools.
I do not mix any fresh 2 stroke. I fill this from the jetskis at the end of the riding season. This means the fuel in my small container is from August of 2020. I have been running my chainsaw and wife running the weedwhacker last few weekends. One year old plus gas. Fuel does not smell funky. Tools are running perfect.
This is first hand info.
Ps: can ran out last weekend, time to drain the boats and refill. This fuel is now 3 months old. Standard e10 pump shit.

Funny, I run 91 octane in my yard equipment (1 & 2 cyl) and you can tell the difference if/when any form of fuel treatment's used in the fuel. Call it snake oil, if you wish, but StaBil & Seafoam seem to make things run smoother & everything always pops-off w/ 2-3 pulls in the spring. Been this way since adding Heet to our farm equipment in the 70-s-80's so my $$$ & vehicles...using it as I wish.

Most 2-cycle oils have a form of fuel stabilizer in them. I use only stihl brand 2-cycle oil. Once mixed gas in can will last 2-3 years with no issues.

Seafoam is a whole different product. I’ve never used it for a fuel stabilizer.
Different climates may have something to do with it, also. But, I’ve found that if I fill my 3-5 gallon gas cans and seal them good the gas will last 2 years with no ill affects. No odd smell and no additional moisture. If I leave them half full or less the gas starts to get moisture in it and smell rancid after 6-9 months. I try to empty them completely and refill.

I never put StaBil in anything. That product is definitely snake oil. If you run the engine regularly, then it’s not needed anyway, but you’ll be ok. If it sits in your carb for any length of time, it will destroy it!

But, you do you. Good luck!

I have observed that effect, that is why I started using 2stroke oil for stored engines/cars/bikes.

My storage rules:
How long will it be "stored", is what I do.
Less than a year- full tank, battery tender.
Less than two years - same as option one, but 'may' change fuel after one year.
More than two years, now we get serious, and need to think about a good plan. But replacing the fuel yearly, and using that one year old gas in lawn equipment is pretty much where I am at today.
As a side note, it took about 20 years to have a fuel system go to total shit and clog up. (Long term 'project, sitting since 1991).At 15 years, it was still working. But would not start without fresh gas dumped into carb. Once started, that 15 year old gas still ran. As for damage caused by old fuel, I have yet to see first hand.
