We just purchased a LG oled evo 4k smart tv. We have listened to 100 sound bars and they all sound the similar in the store. What do you guys have and how does it sound? We are looking at Klipsch and Denon, but are open to others. We do not want anything Bose. Anyone have a Sonos sound bar? It will be used for movies, sports, and streaming music.

It's really hard to hear anything in a store. I bought a Klipsch Cinema 400 last year. It is adequate, at best. However - this is coming from someone used to a full surround sound system (7.1 with a DIY 500w Dayton Audio 15" HO sub). When we moved in to our rental, I couldn't set the old system up so I went with the sound bar. It is fine, but if your room is very big, it may not be enough. A buddy of mine is researching sound bars for his new place at the moment. He's telling me the Sonos and Samsung get good reviews. The Samsung he's looking at is pretty fancy, has Atmos and everything but it's like $1700 retail (street price around $1k). I think I paid $249 for mine on sale. I'd say most of the bars will sound pretty close, but the sub is where the difference will come in. Get the biggest sub you can.

We currently have a LG 5.1 receiver with a passive sub. Its 15 years old and it shows. The sound is terrible. Our living area is 20x18 if knowing the size helps.

I know you said you want nothing from Bose, but I got the Bose Soundbar 500 and Bass Module (free as my 10 year work anniversary “rewards”) and it is pretty amazing. The soundbar sounds good until the bass module kicks in, then wow!

20x18 is a pretty good-sized room, and room volume comes in to play as well, especially with bass. You'll want something more than entry-level, especially if you like to listen loud or have tall ceilings. A dedicated system is always going to sound "better" than a soundbar if you can swing it and room design (and WAF - Wife Approval Factor) allows for proper speaker placement.

Limited space in our corner TV area so 55" Sony w/ Sony Sound Bar works fine. Not theater quality, but good enough for my 59-yr-old ringing ears. :D

How serious do you want to get? I impulse bought a new production vacuum tube amp. It is only rated at some 40w per channel. I was listening to music while gaming, it was on very low volume. And than it hit me, "holy shit this sounds amazing at such low level". And through those 15" vegas, my goodness it can put out some clear and powerful sound if you crank it up.

This is my theater room amp, about the same size as yours.

Big fan of Denon and their current offerings. I have one of their entry S710 models from a few years back, and it does Atmos. The next model range up (like X1700 and up) is really nice and gets closer to the 100wpc target (although I'll add you likely won't be able to tell a difference in 75 or 80wpc vs 100). If you're really serious about power, pre-pro is the way to go.

Output ratings lie. lol
That tube amp puts my surround reciever (80w x5) to shame. And it cannot maintain that output either, insufficient cooling. Had to put a house fan on top for an outdoor party, it cut off after 30 min. lolol

I'd recommend the Sonos over all. I have a few Sonos products in the house. They work very well, have several features and the sound is fantastic. HiFi. The only product I feel is superior to Sonos is Bowers and Wilkins

I’ve never heard a Bowers and Wilkins home theater, but I can vouch for their car audio systems! I’ve had a few in the Volvo S90 rental cars, and they were amazing. The only thing that beat it was a Burmester audio in a AMG C63 free rental upgrade

True story. I have little faith in manufacturer ratings.
