What is the largest tire that will fit in the rear spare well?

And also will allow the carpet to lay somewhat normally?

Last year I stripped my trunk to install sound deadener and found out that my spare tire was not only mostly bald, but also flat AND I had no jack or lug wrench. I put some air in the tire, and now this year I'm in the trunk doing some stuff and find that the spare is flat, again. So apparently it will not hold air.

I have a couple spare Bullitt-style 17x8's that have some curb rash on them, curious if those would fit in the well and what size tire could I run that would actually fit in there?

IIRC there's a thread on this topic with details on adding jack/spare etc

My spare is 255/45/18 mounted on an 18x8.5. It fits very snug but an inch or two higher than the trunk floor pan which I don't mind.

Although it would be a little small in diameter...it looks like the factory spare has a diameter of 25.5", so a 225/50R17 might actually fit in that well. I dunno. Not sure what I wanna do. Part of the problem as well is the fact that I have Brembos up front meaning if I got a flat in front I would have to put one of the back tires on the front and put the spare on the rear...

I carry a jack, lug nut wrench and plug kit along with the factory GT500 pump (you can use the pump w/o using the sealant). Knock on wood, I haven't as to use any of it.

Well I found a stock spare on ebay for $74, free shipping, and bought that. Not a bad price and the easiest route really.

what exactly is that spare you bought on ebay? I have Brembos on mine, carrying a 255-45-18 on a perfect GT500 wheel, would rather have a thinner tire and a wheel I don't have to be concerned with damaging.
Thanks!

Just a stock 17" spare. Saw several others for $75 on there as well. Weird thing was they didn't come up if you searched "Mustang spare tire" but did if you searched "mustang 05 spare compact"
