Hi has anyone had this problem with the manual on a 4.6 gt ? My shift has stopped going into 1.3&5 but the other gears are fine.

Since it's only the gears forward of the H in the gate that are affected, I'd say there's a problem with the shifter linkage which is preventing those gears from engaging.
Did you recently install an aftermarket short throw shifter or do you have the stock unit? I suspect you'll find the problem pretty quickly after you remove the center console.

Hmmm...let's see, I'm guessing we all have had some form of shifting issues over the years. In your case, I'd say you're missing a proper intro to the site as this is your 1st post. So...post 1/3/5 should be telling us something about yourself and...any upgrades to your car (like drivetrain/motor). :D

Not enough info.
Will it go into any of those gears with the engine OFF?
Yes - clutch issue,
No - shift linkage or internal trans issue.

Hi thanks for all your replies. So it’s a stock motor, with about 90k and cat backs . The stock shifter kept jamming between the vague gear changes. So I put a Barton on and changed the fluid with exactly 3.2 quarts of mercon (dex3) non synthetic. Maybe I can adjust the shifter.

Hi forgot to add that the problem is there without the engine running and no difference when it is. Clutch disengagement is nice and clean.

Just to update. I have solved the problem. The stock shifter was the first thing but after fitting the Barton I got three gears as opposed to one. I stripped it out again yesterday and moved the end bracket to the end of the support bar and now have all my gears. It shifts so positively now . Thanks again for everyone’s advise.
