Hey guys, I'm Sean. I'm new to S197 ownership, also new to SN95 ownership, which is what finally pushed me into the S197 car. I come from the OBS F150 world from the last 10 years, and still have my bullnose Bronco to show for it

Anyways, here's the car I've been searching out for a few years now. She's a 2012 GT stickshift Premium with 100k miles, and apparently a former member of the Red Mustang Registry. It's already got BMR lowering springs and an adjustable panhard bar (if anyone could eyeball the drop amount, that'd be sweet), Corsa axlebacks, and some tint on it, to go along with some questionable interior paint choices...

Are there any "must do" mods for these cars? Coming from the trucks, I've never had much hands on experience with the Mustangs. I hear great things about intakes and tuners, but honestly know nothing about how the tuners work and if they are reliable

An aftermarket short throw shifter for the MT82, such as the MGW, would be a good start and it'll work even better if you add a Blowfish (or other aftermarket) shifter support bracket. The MT82 is the Achilles heel of Coyote Mustangs and these fixes will prevent some of the problems associated with it.

I'll have to look into that. I seem to remember reading way back when (like '07) that people were having shifting issues on the old car under hard acceleration as well. I guess Ford didn't work that out enough

Welcome. I am in Florida also. Ft Lauderdale area.
Thanks! I'm up in the Sarasota area. Makes it real easy for the NMRA race

Thanks for the welcome! The links/tutorials in this post are all broken, at least for me. I've been a member of various forums for the last 15 years, so I'm pretty sure I understand what you're saying, but I thought you may like to know!

MGW shifter and aftermarket clutch are MUST DO's imo. The clutch is the problem with shifting at high rpm's, it doesn't disengage until it slows down a little bit.

Welcome from another Floridian. I have a 2012 Mustang GT Premium (MT-82, 3.73 rear axle) that I ordered from the factory. I installed the Barton short throw shifter and two-post bracket, along with the Steeda clutch spring and perch, which helped quite a bit. In my experience, that eliminated most issues up to around 7000 RPM shift points at the drag strip. I have the Steeda Mustang MT-82 Transmission Mount Bushing Insert, but I've yet to install it. However, I know the MGW shifter is a better solution, by design. As pass1over mentioned, for serious track use, an aftermarket clutch should be considered. I do like the MT-82 gear ratios: 3.66 2.43 1.69 1.32 1.00 0.65

Welcome to the club. I have BMR lowering springs on my 06 GT (1.5" lower all around) and I'd say you probably have the same.
