Flusher, I had a long post about this issue previously. I have a 2013 Mustang that has the original factory radio. Mine made a popping sound, and had the same symptoms as yours. After long research, I found out that the head units are made in China, and the circuit board inside, needs to be re-soldered, as the original soldering gives out after a few years. I found a guy in Missouri who is a total expert on re-doing the soldering. I watched videos, which showed me how to remove the head unit. There are many on youtube. I boxed it up and shipped it to him in Missouri. He fixes them pretty quickly, and re-ships them back to you. I am very un-mechanical, and even I was able to remove the head unit after popping out the center console and other plastic coverings to get to the head unit. With paying for shipping back and forth to Missouri, and the cost of the repair (resoldering), I think I spent about a total of $170. You have to decide if you would rather spend more and get a more modern radio/audio/video player instead of keeping the old, original factory head unit. My local FORD dealer was going to charge me $200 just to diagnose the problem. I said "Forget that". Guys will suggest checking the fuses, and disconnecting your battery and other stuff like that. There are many of these Ford Mustang radio circuit boards that give out after a few years. Mine has worked perfectly ever since I re-installed it. It also synchs with my iphone 8. I did notice that the CD player does not work very well, however, since the guy who re-solders the circuit board, does not do anything with the CD play mechanism. So I really can't play CD's in mine, however, I can stream from my iphone so it's no longer a big deal. If you have any other questions, let me know. I spent hours researching this, since I am unskilled as a mechanic, but I had to learn. I also am too cheap to spend like $700 plus to install a new updated audio/video system
