Team,

Which CAI (tune required) would you recommend for a 2009 V6?

Thx!

Many years ago, I had a 2007, V6 and purchased a Ford Racing CAI. They mailed me a tune based on my PCM, and I had the dealer install it.

When I had my 4.0 I put the C&L intake on it and the tune was done by Lidio at Alternative Auto. He doesn't tune the 4.0 now though so you'd have to get a tune from somewhere else.

The tune is what really makes it, regardless of the CAI you get.

^Thanks, but not for me. I got a GT and already has a CAI and tune by brendspeed. It's for my buddy who just got a V6.

I'll second Jim...I had a C&L on mine before I added the supercharger. It was a nice, well made piece, but requires a tune. Any CAI that has a different diameter (where the MAF slides in) than the stock airbox will require a tune to work properly (and keep the engine light off).

If you get a CAI with a larger diameter MAF tube than stock, the only tune adjustment that's required is a correction of the MAF transfer curve to prevent the engine from running too lean.
I'm talking about a performance tune with increased spark timing advance and optimized fueling (12.8:1 AFR at WOT). You'd gain more HP/TQ even with the stock airbox. The 4.0 V6 has a much lower demand for air than the 4.6 V8 and since it has the same lower airbox as the GT, it's already generously sized. A CAI on its own will produce minimal if any performance gain on the V6.

Essentially what I was getting at...I just dummed it down a bit.

As for the second part of your statement, I couldn't agree more. When I said I 2nd Jim, I was including the "The tune is what really makes it, regardless of the CAI you get." part. I had a C&L, and liked it...if not for the mega horsepower it added, than for the fit/finish/materials used. It was a nice piece, and I would recommend it to someone who wants what the OP is asking for.
