Hello Mustang People,
This is my 2006 4.0 V6

I hit a deer about a year ago and have been slowly collecting parts to rebuild my car in the spring. I'm faced of course with finding paint for the parts going onto the car, and so far what I've painted is not looking right.

I went to the paint shop, ordered a single-stage mixture using the colour code "G2" from inside the doorjam, and these were my results. The door, pass fender, and bumpers were all painted, the rest is factory.
There is little to no fade, the car matches really well with the doorjams and unexposed areas. I've tried different samples and types of paint but just can't get it to look like the factory.

I can't get anywhere near the colour or metallic of the original.

Don't go by the Urethane bumpers. They can e spot on and appear to be a different shade

So true... you can clearly see the rear bumper difference in my now defunct 06" GT Convt. It never bothered me and sometimes depending on light it wouldn't be noticeable.

Exact same thing when Wife got my brand new Turbo Z sideswiped. Thought she could make it through mid-stop intersection. Paint was Pearl Garnet Red, entire side here/there mismatched showed from a distance but it was blended in spray, not piece by piece. What was done was a complete compounding, polish and buffing. Never looked better…

So much for new car, NOS on my way.

Red is the hardest color to match. Add in metal flake and it's more difficult. Stock paint codes are only a guide to get you close. Color matching is almost always necessary.

Redfire (G2) is a hard color to match. You need to use the exact same color type of primer as the factory, same number of coats and it is base/clear. Due to the metallic you will probably have to live with a little difference or blend it, or Rea pray the whole car. All it takes with the high metallic content of this paint is to spray one panel at a different angle than another. That’s why most aftermarket paint jobs of colors similar are not panel painted they are assembled and then painted.
I have not seen a lot of success with this color painting only panels such as you are doing.
