Grabbed a 17" EPAS from a 2012 V6. Harness wise Im having a hard time trying to get ahold of part number WC96240 as I would expect since the harness is dated. I can however get WC96223.

WC96240 is for Autos while WC96223 is for MT82's. So for what I need it to do shouldn't matter I'd imagine. But if anyone can clear up the confusion I'd appreciate it so I know what I'm buying.

The harness for the EPAS is in the trans harness, hence the different numbers. I'd check out Race Car services or even Cortex for a stand alone unit. You can get it to work if you tie the CAN bus wires and hook up the main power cables to the rack as well.

Don't make much sense to me when the manuals had EPAS as well, so the two plugs are not included in part WC96223? The reason I'm going the harness route is it is a much cleaner job than the above video you mentioned and not only that the fuse for it is already built into the terminals. I am going to splice it into the CAN but again I'll be needing the harness to cut into.

Cortex is overpriced for just a fuckin plug lol if we're referring to this one here when I could just get one off a the same v6 I got this rack from. Was just hoping I could get it brand new and shiny rather than covered in the same amount of crap as the rack was due to a leaky pan or past oil changes.

Cortex isn't "just a fucking plug". It actually controls the rack separately. The "brains" of it is smaller than the connector. Maybe you misunderstood. The EPAS harness is built INTO the trans harness. That's why there's different part numbers for auto and manual. Theoretically you could get either and just use the connectors and wires from the harness as you wouldn't need the rest

Sorry I just woke up I understand now Lol. I figured what I'm going to do is just replace my battery terminal harness with what was to be WC96240.

Long as if I know the WC96223 will work as a direct battery cable replacement I'm solid. I'm doing something very similar to this dudes here maybe you'll see what I'm talkin about by just replacing the harness entirely? And stripping what I don't need. Appreciate the info.

The thing is, and you may have seen it in my vid or not, is that the battery and trans harness will have excess wires etc. Unless you you're swapping a 11-14 Coyote, they're not needed. Just find a 2011+ car and get the battery/trans harness from it. Use the cables, and tie into the CAN bus wires and 12V IGN. I was fortunate that someone local to me coyote swapped their fox with a donor car and didn't use any of the EPAS stuff and had the cables already by themselves. Or just get wireeverything.com 's setup.

gotcha, I’m still sticken with the 4.6 and plan on for the remainder of its life, which is one reason why I wanted to do this conversion for apart of the cool factor as well as freeing up some power and space. I’ll just hit up my yard and tell them to pull the harness. Thanks for helping me with my decision.

I still just don't understand how a small kit like that costs 330 dollars lol...

Guess you're paying for the "plug in play" "convenience" "clean" look. But god damn...I could just buy a used harness for 100 and strip what I need from it. I will say it does look nice, it sure is tempting.

They designed it to be completely stand alone. Yes you can strip your harness down and do it cheaply, as long as you know what hi and low CAN bus means and get an IGN source.

Which in this case the two can bus signals are the twisted cables into the PCM on the passenger side, I've seen the dude in the vid do it into the ABS and I thought that was odd because...if traction control is turned off, does that then turn the EPAS off or is it a constant signal. I'm not good with electrical and reading schems, I just monkey see monkey do it until it functions.

Think of the CAN bus wires like a home or office network. These wires allow communication between modules with far less wires. Traction control is more or less a feature using the ECU and ABS.

Yeah it’s a line of communication for the ecu to communicate with other electronics on the car from my understanding.

The EPAS rack will not bolt into a 05-10 Mustang. You have to use the 11 and newer crossmember. Not sure if you are aware of that.

No it does, my video proves it. Yes they have an xtra mounting point, but it's really unnecessary. To further solidify that, the S550 racks don't use athird mounting point.

@Deathstang II Im with you there... I am looking into doing this mod as well but cannot justify speading $330 USD on a freaking harness. Thats nuts. Need to figure out how to use the OEM one.
