Chrome peeling

We just purchased a 2006 GT Roush with the chrome peeling on the inner parts of the wheels and a bit around the lug nut holes. Has anyone had any luck with sanding and painting the affected areas with silver paint or anything? The outer (face) of the wheels look fine, but the inners are noticeably peeling and look bad. I haven't checked into rechroming but I wouldn't be shocked to find out it is prohibitedly expensive. Any and all help/suggestions appreciated.

If your wheels are like mine, the clear coat seems to peel off the polished aluminum. I used a paint stripping buff to remove the bad clear coat, polished the aluminum, and sprayed clear coat on the area. It's not great, but it's an improvement.

Same thing on my 2012 GT California Special wheels. Clear peeled off in several spots.

Guys, these are chrome plated, not polished aluminum. I don't think I could powder coat as it would require going into an oven and I'm not sure how the existing chrome plating, which is in fine shape on the face, would hold up to the oven bake of powder coating. The wheels are aftermarket ROUSH wheels which came with the Stage 2 ROUSH package.

Professional wheel reconditioning, like Wheels America is the only real option short of replacing the wheels. It should run around $150 per wheel.

Some good suggestions (above) - another vote for re-coating. Don't do what my MIL did w/ her Avalanche rims...silver paint. >.<
