Hello Forum Members,
I wanted to share my experience with my Accel Super Tuner. I have a 2006 S-197 4.0l with 5 spd manual. I called American Muscle to order a tuner. I told AM that my plans were a cold air intake, performance ignition coil and a gear change from 3.31 to 4.10. After explaining to AM that I needed to make sure the tuner could adjust gear ratio and tire aspect ratio along with a performance tune (91 octane tune), The American Muscle representative recommended the Accel Super Tuner, he stated it would do everything I needed so I purchased one (BIG MISTAKE).

I just finished a 4.10 gear change with a traction lock differential, after taking the Super Tuner out of the box to register it and complete updates as recommended I plugged it in to my mustang. I noticed after the performance (91 octane flash) when it came time to change my gear ration it allowed me to change from 3.31 to 4.10 with no issues, however after that I could not find the tire size menu. After five calls to Holley (average wait time was 28-57 minutes with multiple transfers) I finally was transfered to a person who specialized in the Super Tuner Tech Support he told me that The Accel Super Tuner does not have the capability to adjust tire size from their tuner menu on 2005-2009 S-197 Mustangs v-6 or v-8, he went on to say after I asked why does their box show gear and tire size change capability and it doesn't? He proceeded with "you are going to have to call American Muscle because they sold it to you." Sorry for the long post, I just don't want anyone to spend their hard earned money on a product that doesn't do what is advertised. I have purchased numerous Holley products over the years and up to this point I have been very satisfied with their products, except for the Accel Super Tuner! I forgot to mention even after changing the gear menu to 4.10, my speedometer is now 11 mph fast (checked speed with gps). Does anyone know of a tuner that will allow you to adjust both gear ratio and tire aspect ratio for the v-6 S-197?

Thank you

Yep, SCT. Even my old X2 will do both, and many more.
4.10s with the 5-speed...I did that. First gear's pretty short.

Thanks Roddy,
Agreed 1st gear is short, I went with 4.10's because I wanted the pulling power in second, third and fourth gear. The car was setup to be a canyon carver and it performs really well. I'm fortunate I have miles of twisting scenic roads to run.

Can you completely turn off traction control with the SCT tuners?

Thanks again for your input

That's one question I can't answer. My '07 is as basic as you could get...no traction control or ABS.

Something to be aware of with the 4.10s is driveshaft speed. The design on the V6 cars has the slip joint in the middle of the shaft, and no hanger bearing. This driveshaft has been known to come apart at high speeds, even with stock gearing (there are videos out there of these failing on dynos). I replaced my DS with a one piece aluminum 'shaft, and shaved almost 10lbs in the process.
