Autocrossers! What are your off season upgrade plans?

I noticed Nitto does that with their NT05's too. Kinda odd

Autocrossers! What are your off season upgrade plans?

If you are trying to be competitive, I wouldn't use the NT05's.

Put a golf cart battery in my 5.0, saved 24lbs for $70

My previous car was a Miata. People used them all the time. I used this same battery (Deka ETX9) on that car and it didn't work out well. The car had some kind of drain so it would die if parked more than about 2-3 days. Never had that issue with the Mustang though. Started right up every time.

Put a golf cart battery in my 5.0, saved 24lbs for $70

Well for some mysterious reason, my advance trac kept coming back on in the middle of autocross runs so I took it out. Can't say with certainty it was due to the battery, but it definitely seemed to happen more with the deka. The good news is, the car never once died on me or failed to start...

Thinking about S550... will any of my S197 wheels work?

Thanks guys. Will report back if I end up going that route.

Thinking about S550... will any of my S197 wheels work?

Currently I have a set of AMR 18x10 +45, and a set of Enkei PF01 18x9.5 +35. Thinking about an S550 (non-PP) but it would be nice if I could keep my wheels. Will either set work? Thanks, Jim

What coil-overs should I buy? Poll inside

Ditto. The MCS may not even have an anti-rust coating since they are more of a race coilover. Although, I must say it... you can buy some standard Bilsteins, lowering springs and camber plates and duplicate the Vorshlag kit for about half the price if you don't need adjustable height.

Autocrossers! What are your off season upgrade plans?

I can vouch for the Bilsteins on a daily driver. I run Maximum Motorsports springs, about 380lb-in IIRC. I ran them last winter with Eibach Pro-kits which are softer springs, drove on snow tires on crappy Ohio roads. No issues whatsoever.

Autocrossers! What are your off season upgrade plans?

Agreed on both counts. Can't deny the utility of a hatchback!

Autocrossers! What are your off season upgrade plans?

Probably selling the car. Just sick of driving a manual and I need a 4 door. May look at ordering a Golf R.

So What Tires are Currently Available?

I've autocrossed on both the NT05 and Goodyear Eagle F1s. Also did a HPDE weekend on NT05's in a different car. They overheat quickly but are fine for autocross, especially if you spray them. I'd say they are both about what I expected given the price ($600 for the Goodyears, $800 for the...

So What Tires are Currently Available?

These are probably the steal of the moment... older compound but still better than the Goodyears: Kumho Ecsta XS 275/35/18... 800 shipped Also Nitto NT05 275/40/18... 820 shipped Unless you're trying to win a championship or something, I don't see the point spending $1200 on a set of tires...

Running no rear sway bar on track?

Great! Can you make those photos a little bigger? :P

Running no rear sway bar on track?

Rear diff has a large bearing on corner exit behavior as well.

    Rival-S and RE71s on track?

Yep, only drifter I knew worked at a tire shop and had access to unlimited free takeoff tires.

Hawk HPS vs Powerstop Z26 vs Stoptech vs EBC pads

Bite is really lacking on the Stoptechs, although they aren't terrible overall. For a DD any pad should be fine

So why don't 10in wide square setups work?

Don't go wider than 285 on a 10" rim. Even that is pushing it. Mods can we make this a sticky? http://www.motoiq.com/MagazineArticles/ID/3974/How-to-PROPERLY-select-and-size-TIRES-for-PERFORMANCE.aspx

    Any hillclimb people here?

Too bad. I love the idea of a track day cheaper than Mid Ohio but my suspension isn't set up for offroading
