Titanium vs. Tool Steel Retainers for street/strip

For durability on a street driven engine, go with steel retainers. While titanium is strong and light, it does not wear well against the steel valve spring. Also, the weight savings between steel and titanium is not much on these small beehive spring style retainers......big ol' triple valve...

    Stock Crank Shaft Specs

I read somewhere that the new SCAT cranks have traditional 1/8" fillets on the main and rod journals. Check to see if you need to chamfer the edges of your bearings?

Blow By - Not the company, my motor - Rebuild Advice Needed

What are you getting for leak down numbers? How do you know for sure cyl. 1 and 2 have excessive blow by? I would look over your breather system and make sure it is properly sized and venting correctly. If an engine is leaking from all gaskets, a LOT of pressure is being allowed to build in...

    Break in oil... then?

I used Driven BR30 oil for the initial/500 mile break-in and now use the LS30 for regular street/track use. Rings seated right away and I have had no issues at all.....Driven is great stuff!

What would you do if this happened to you? What can I do?

It's probably sitting in their detail dept., cleaned-up and ready to roll out in the morning.

WTF is wrong with the employees at MMR?

For what's its worth, I rented a Modular tq. plate for 2 weeks from CCA Racing when I had my block machined by a local machinist. CCA Racing are great folks to deal with and very flexible on the scheduling of the return. Total cost for the tq. plate rental, including shipping both ways, was...

New Engine....scored cylinder walls, need diagnosis help

Were the rings confirmed as installed with the right side up? I have always been told if the second compression ring is installed upside down, the engine will smoke constantly.

Fore Innovations Fuel Rails on a Blown ROUSH...Interference

Can you use a mill to trim off about 1/8"-3/16" off the end of the fuel rail? Based on the pics, it looks like there is a bunch of material on that end. I guess it depends on how deep the threads go into the fuel rail.

    break in oil options

I ran the Driven/Gibbs BR30 for my 500 mile break-in period. Stuff worked great, no ring seal issues at all. After break-in, I drained the oil, swapped the filter and filled up with 6 qts. of the LS30. Motor has been running great ever since......really like the Driven oil products.

    Valve guides?

I would stick with the OEM style cast iron guides, seems as though the bronze guides don't wear as well in 3V heads.

What Is Your Main Bearing Clearance???

I built my engine with .0017-.0020 in. on the mains and .0023-.0025 in. on the rods and have right at 30psi of idle oil pressure (750rpm) with 5W-30 oil. I would be a little concerned with running .025"-.028" on the mains, unless you plan on running some thicker oil. Even high HP mod motors...

    Opinions on clutch.

At 9-10 psi, I ran my stock clutch with no issues...even drag raced it a fair amount. If you have a stock clutch with only 9K miles on it and don't plan to boost more than 10 psi, I say put it back in and save your money for something else. Stock clutch is also really easy on driveline parts.

    127500s for turbo?

I use the COMP limiters with my 127500 cams. I would not lock-out the phasers if using a lower load spring like the COMP #26113 valve springs, which I use. If running higher load springs, then locking out the phasers may be a good idea. I have run up to 12psi on my particular engine and it...

COMP 127500's work great in my turbo motor. Sound great at idle and run strong up top.

    Main bearing clearance

OEM spec on the mains is .025-.050mm (.0010-.0020 in.), rod journals are .027-.069mm (.0011-.0027 in.) I built my engine with .0017-.0020 in. on the mains and .0023-.0025 in. on the rods and have right at 30psi of idle oil pressure (750rpm) with 5W-30 oil.

BMR's New S197 LCA - Which style do you want?

If you come out with a cheap rec. tube LCA, I suspect you will kill sales of your TCA019. If you are trying to compete in the cheap LCA market, don't make the product so similar in shape to your premium LCA, give it obvious differentiation, not just paint and thinner tubing.
