MGW gen2, Blowfish bracket, Mobile 1 fluid. Installed for almost 2 years, just last month or so been getting progressively harder to shift from 4th to 5th, today it was so hard I just started going 4th to 6th with no problem. Car's driven almost every weekend, all other shifts are fine. ~60k mi.

    Anybody?

When you say “hard too get into 5th” do you mean it pushes normally out of 4th and 5th is blocked. Takes a lot of pressure to go in? Grinding?

Comes out of 4th easy, I have to deliberately push up, over and up with considerable force. Almost like its locked out. I noticed at low speeds (25-35) it's much easier. Of course, at low speeds I'm not going to use 5th just testing.

That really sounds like a synchro.

Yeah, that's what I didn't really want to hear. I was hoping for some shifter adjustment advice or such.

Have you ever tried to rev match shift it to 5th? if you cannot do that, I'd agree it's a syncro issue

All bets are on, just seem to favor the shifter is out of alignment. Working or not is a very fine line there (or used to be). If all other shifts are OK, must be releasing clutch sat. if only trouble in 4th to 5th? That would be the furthest push up and far right, I’d just take a look, absolutely nothing to lose before dropping tranny. Can picture that right fork (bolts loosened) as gotten a bit wobbly if looks similar?

Too as I can recall the Ford OEM version (BOSS and MT-82 anyways) shifter would have rubber bushings that could flex eventually and Blowfish bracket was answer to that? F30AEBAD-1FF0-4E2C-9C59-A6F904A0795B.png

Assuming its not a shifter issue:

First sign of clutch going out. If syncros were shot, you would get a grind and not a lockout. And it will be a grind if my suspicion is correct and you keep forcing it into gear.

How is it going into reverse?

As the clutch wears, pedal force starts to increas. Because of this, the clutch does not fully release. If the rpms do not match, the syncro blocks the shift. This drastically accelarates syncro wear.

This. Do the 6th gear parking brake test where you try and let the clutch out to watch it die. With those miles and age I bet its clutch time

I believe the clutch has been changed out. I've driven a stock clutched 08 GT500 (Lee's) and my clutch is considerably more stiff. And Lee has driven mine and remarked how more effort was required than from his.

One of these days I'll get it up on the stands and check the shifter, until then it'll be 4th to 6th.

Not the Clutch.. I am going with the Shifter assy. probably a bad bushing since its only happening at the 5th throw... , I have the MGW--it is awesome...

Seems to do it more the hotter the drivetrain gets. It'll start out fine then further into the drive the tougher it gets. Also the shift to reverse gets tough also.
    The lockout perhaps?

When was the last time you changed your transmission fluid? Could also be your hydraulic slave and or clutch master cylinder starting to go…..

There is no lockout (syncro) on reverse.
Your clutch is on its way out and needs to be serviced.
No majic fluid change will help this.
And every drive you take beats the crap out of your transmission's syncronizers.
