Dome light would not go off, and "Door Ajar" on the dash.

Replaced switch with one I got from local parts place.

Acted the same way. Got another and it behaves exactly the same.

Door open the switch is also an "open", close the door and the switch goes to .5 ohms, a "short".

Here's the switch...

Smart Junction Box, behind right kick panel. Check for water intrusion/corrosion.

Exactly. These cars aren't very waterproof. Check the cowling drain under the hood. You can remove the rubber grommet and throw it away if it's plugged with leaves and debris.

What's really strange is how the system operates like the switch is backwards.
It's mounted correctly, plus it's Don-proof. ;)

On the bench, the switch is "Open" and when I press the plunger ( as if the door closes ), it goes to .5 ohms.

Then, I put it in the door with my meter on the pins. It read open with the door open. Then I used a screwdriver to tilt the latch like when the door closes, it read .5ohms.

If there is a short in the Smart Junction Box from water intrusion it can reverse the polarity in the circuit like you are experiencing.

Fixed!

The switch we got from Napa was the trick. It operated exactly as I expected.

Car is all together and windows/dome light are fine.

Thanks for the suggestions!
