Just wanted to put a big thank you out there to the S197 Mustang crowd who attended this past weekends NMRA event! We had a huge field, total of 21 participants! This was very exciting for us and it really impressed the whole NMRA organization that this many cars entered. We had a bunch of guys there running from other companys including Super Tune performance, Sutton High Performance, Brenspeed and more! Brenspeed made a huge showing with 6 shop and customer cars! A ton of independent racers showed up too and from what i hear there should really be a large following for the rest of the season with this class!!
We debuted our 25th anniversary Saleen S302 Extreme where we took it down the 1320 on her maiden voyage. First run out of the box was a 10.41@130 MPH!!! Damn good for a 3900lb street car! The car then proceeded to lay down 10.4 ETs like it was its Job! (in fact it is) Our driver Paul Gamino made it all the way to the finals in our Super Stang class where he faced off with Larry Russell in his V6 powered S197 stang. Larry was cutting the tree down all day and did again in the finals with a .014 reaction time. Paul knew he had to cut a light too and just anticipated it too fast and went -.003 Red
This was a dissapointment to us but the fact that the car ran so well and so deadly consistent the entire weekend was a big testament to our race program and we know there will be plenty of final rounds to come and redeem ourselves, with that car and Paul as the driver!
I also ran in the superstang class with my Car, didn't do so well as i had a very, very, very, poor reaction time at the starting line. I made the ulitmate mistake of looking away from the tree after i had both staging bulbs lit, when i looked back the light was already turning green and i ended up with an uncharacteristic .297 reaction time....I was .040's-.050's all weekend. Ahhh $hit happens right??
Anyways i just wanted to post a big thanks to everyone who showed up and supported our class and the S197 community! Also a big thank you to Saleen for showing up and leanding all there support. They had some really great looking S197 cars of their own including a Dan Gurney Edition mustang and a S7 to boot! Here are a bunch of videos that Jimmy Biggs took for us, they are all posted on our website too!
