Black Trim Restore
Watching the Mustang Chat Boards, it reminds me of the old saying "It's a slow News Day". I've been wanting to write this article about the pictured product for some time but been really busy working with my wife's dementia and I had a mini stroke just before Thanksgiving. I didn't feel anything but developed double vision from the stroke. Doctors say it can take nine to 12 months for sight to correct itself. Honestly, the article isn't about our health, just an explanation of why it has taken so long to get this done.
Last year I came across this product and decided to try it. I don't buy much of anything off of Instagram but decided to give it a try and ordered it. The product claimed to restore the black trim throughout the car to showroom new. Owning a black Mustang convertible, it is subject to fading from sun exposure as you can see in the included photo. It took 6 to 8 weeks for the product to arrive and put me into very cold temperatures. There was nothing on the bottle addressing temperature limits for applications and I did put it on in low 40's. Label said it would dry in a few hours and would last a year. Because of the cold I let it set for three days, ran my finger across the "stained" area. It did come off on my finger. I then buffed it with a soft cloth that removed the residue and it looked great and no more residue. I did make several mistakes, after finding the product I should have checked Amazon or gone to a local car parts store. Assuming they had it I could have applied it during warmer weather.
The manufacturer states it will last a year but I'm expecting much longer. My car is garage stored and assuming I can get my sight restored it will be back on the road in the Spring, we'll see if it fades or holds up. You can see the faded area behind the driver seat side.
